Safety Technician - Investigator

Identifies, analyzes, and promotes safety by applying knowledge of refinery processes, personal and process safety to incident investigations and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).  This role requires knowledge, skills, and abilities to:
  1. Facilitate and document the incident investigation process.  
  2. Conduct Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) as part of the Management of Change Process.  
  3. Interpret process drawings and change documentation, observe as-built conditions, and recognize personal/process safety deviations. 
  4. Mentor and coach to assist in formulating and implement acceptable mitigations for observed deviations.

Job Responsibilities: 

  1. Review initial incident investigation reports for missing/incomplete data.  Ensure incident classification and tier is correct.  Effectively communicate with personnel any corrections that are needed. 
  2. Facilitate the collection and storage of incident investigation data, witness statements, and supporting documents.
  3. Ensure/track the on-time completion of incident reporting requirements.  Evaluate the initial incident report and coordinate any corrections.  
  4. Participate in, track progress in electronic management system (Gensuite), and provide progress briefings of investigations and associated action items.
  5. Accountable to conduct and document PSSR's, and associated post-startup action items in electronic system (Gensuite).
  6. Research, compile, and brief on industry specific incidents that are relevant to Refinery scenarios
  7. Compile safety data, analyze for trends, and report key performance indicators 
  8. Create reports and presentations 

Required Qualifications - Education, Skills & Experience:

- Minimum four years of refinery/petrochemical experience
- Minimum of two years of safety/incident investigation experience 
- Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, Word, and PowerPoint advanced user
- Incident Root Cause Training

Preferred Qualifications - Education, Skills & Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in a related field (Process Technology, Occupational Safety, Process Safety & Health)
