Staff Structural Engineer - Oil, Gas & Chemical Global Practice in Houston, TX!

Day to Day: 
  • Under general supervision, perform and/or coordinate the structural engineering and design execution from multiple offices for a project, incorporating schedules, budgets and project criteria into design and deliverables to meet project goals.
  • Assist the Lead Engineer, as requested, in areas of scheduling, estimating, progress reporting, meetings, procurement activities, etc.
  • Develop and prepare project deliverables; includes FEP phase design concepts through detailed design, procurement and construction.
  • Perform and check both routine and complex types of calculations and designs using computer-aided and/or manual design techniques including, but not limited to: Process equipment foundations (both spread footings & deep foundations).
  • Pipe rack and process structure foundations (both spread footings & deep foundations).
  • Steel pipe racks, miscellaneous pipe and cable tray supports, including modular and revamp work.
  • Steel process structures, including modular and revamp work.
  • Understanding and knowledge of pertinent codes, governing regulations and industry practices, etc. (e.g. IBC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, PIP).
  • Understanding and proficiency of software including STAAD.Pro, RISA-3D, Ram Connection, Dimensional Solutions Foundation3D & Mat3D, Navisworks and/or Smart Plant Review.
  • Knowledge and proficiency utilizing laser scan data, including use of LFM software.
  • Utilize vendor data and work with personnel from other disciplines, as required, for the advancement and development of designs.
  • Perform squad checks of vendor data and deliverables from other disciplines, as required.
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations and answer RFI's and NCR's.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and interdisciplinary coordination skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skils and extreme attention to detail.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer, preferably in Texas.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Or Bachelor of Science in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering may be substituted for 1-year experience.
  • 3 years of structural engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Successful completion (i.e.passing) FE or EIT preferred.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with STADD Pro.
  • This position requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
