We are seeking a hands-on CNC Manager to lead our machining department, drive production performance, maintain quality standards, and develop our team. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in Mastercam programming and 5-axis machining with proven leadership experience.
This role oversees daily machining operations, leads CNC machinists and programmers, and drives continuous improvement across programming, setup, production scheduling, and process optimization. The successful candidate will be comfortable working at the programming station, on the shop floor, and with cross-functional teams to improve efficiency, quality, and delivery performance.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, schedule, and supervise CNC machinists, operators, and programmers across one or more shifts.
  • Establish production priorities, conduct daily meetings, and maintain accountability for safety, quality, and delivery.
  • Train and mentor team members in programming, setup, machine operation, and machining best practices.
  • Support hiring, performance evaluations, and employee development.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

CNC Programming & Technical Operations
  • Develop, edit, and optimize Mastercam programs for 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC milling, including simultaneous 5-axis and 3+2 machining.
  • Support CNC turning and mill-turn operations as needed.
  • Optimize toolpaths, fixturing strategies, and tooling selections to improve cycle times, efficiency, and part quality.
  • Verify programs using simulation and machine verification tools to reduce the risk of collisions, scrap, and rework.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and GD&T requirements.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues involving setups, offsets, tool wear, tolerances, and surface finishes.
  • Support new product introductions, first-article inspections, and process documentation.

Production & Continuous Improvement
  • Plan and prioritize machining schedules to meet customer delivery commitments and maximize machine utilization.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, including on-time delivery, scrap and rework, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), and labor efficiency.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues and nonconformances.
  • Implement lean manufacturing initiatives, including 5S, setup reduction, and standard work.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, automate operations, and expand multi-axis machining capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and Maintenance to resolve production issues and plan capacity.
  • Oversee tooling inventory, coordinate preventive maintenance, and maintain an organized, efficient shop floor.
  • Enforce safety procedures and ensure compliance with applicable company policies and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in a CNC machining or precision manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Mastercam, including simultaneous 5-axis toolpath programming.
  • Strong understanding of CNC machine operation, setup, workholding, tooling, and cutting tool technology.
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and GD&T requirements.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and bore gauges.
  • Working knowledge of G-code and common CNC controls, such as Fanuc and Haas.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage production schedules, meet deadlines, and lead teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical degree or certification in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, medical, or other precision manufacturing industries.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar quality management systems.
  • Experience with CMM programming or inspection, ERP/MRP systems, and post-processor editing.
  • Background in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience machining exotic materials, including titanium, Inconel, and stainless steel.
