Position Summary

The Electrical Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting the execution of electrical maintenance, capital, and reliability projects within a refinery or heavy industrial environment. This position develops detailed work packages, resource plans, schedules, cost estimates, and material requirements to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective project execution. The Electrical Planner will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability, and Construction teams to support the successful delivery of electrical projects and turnaround activities.
This is a long-term opportunity for an experienced electrical professional with a strong background in industrial electrical systems and project planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed work plans and job packages for electrical maintenance and capital projects.
  • Plan and coordinate activities involving high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Support project execution by defining labor requirements, equipment needs, materials, tools, permits, and safety considerations.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules using established planning and scheduling tools.
  • Create cost estimates, budget forecasts, and resource-loading plans for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, maintenance, contractors, and construction teams to ensure project readiness.
  • Participate in field walk-downs to verify job scope, identify risks, and establish execution strategies.
  • Support construction coordination activities and provide field support during project execution as needed.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust schedules, resource plans, and work packages to meet project objectives.
  • Ensure all planning activities comply with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, drawings, specifications, and work histories within company systems.
  • Assist with outage, turnaround, and shutdown planning activities when required.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on planning effectiveness, cost control, and schedule performance.

Experience

  • 7 to 10+ years of electrical planning, maintenance, construction, or project execution experience within a refinery, petrochemical, chemical processing, power generation, or other heavy industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and coordinating electrical maintenance and capital project work.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems and equipment.

Technical Knowledge

Experience with the following is required:
  • High-voltage and low-voltage electrical distribution systems
  • Power transformers
  • Protective relays
  • Switchgear and breakers
  • Electrical substations
  • Industrial power systems
  • Electrical reliability and maintenance programs
  • Refinery or industrial process facility electrical equipment
  • Experience coordinating contractors and construction activities in an operating facility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with instrumentation and controls systems is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with outage and turnaround planning processes.

Systems & Software Experience

Experience with the following systems is preferred:
  • SAP
  • Primavera P6
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Integrated planning, scheduling, estimating, and cost-management software platforms
