Sr Mechanical Engineer / Design

We're currently seeking highly motivated and improvement-oriented Manufacturing Engineer with our client who is a leading global provider of advanced engineered solutions for the aerospace and transportation industries. The Company's primary businesses focus on jet engine components, aerospace fastening systems and titanium structural parts necessary for mission-critical performance and efficiency in aerospace and defense applications, as well as forged wheels for commercial transportation. 

Responsibilities
  • Reporting directly to the Director of New Product Development, the Staff Engineer will partner with manufacturing; tooling engineering and research engineers to solve critical engineering challenges related to the development of new products.
  • This role will perform engineering and technical assignments using mechanical engineering practices and principles reducing global requirement to designs and processes
  • Coordinates building and testing of prototypes including selecting process, tooling and equipment
  • Analyzes research data, prior art and relevant specifications to define the design space
  • Confers with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and validate design
  • Prepares or coordinates preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings
  • Plans and designs experiments, coordinates test programs and evaluate test results
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to design product and simulate performance
  • Participates in the preparation of invention reports and preparation of other documentation required to file and prosecute patents

  • Promote compliance and enhancement of all EHS rules and regulations, standards, and instructions

Qualifications
  • Experience designing and developing mechanical products for the aerospace industry with emphasis on product design and manufacturing process development
  • Demonstrated ability to develop high precision mechanical assemblies with common CAD/ CAE tools reducing global target requirement to measurable geometric characteristics and material requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to verify structural integrity by using analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other analysis tools throughout the product lifecycle in the framework of the structural environment, characteristics and performance
  • Broad knowledge of metal manufacturing, assembly and inspection processes and principles including high precision metal forming, machining and process failure analysis with working knowledge of product reliability and statistical process control
  • Strong project management skills; experience with project management software tools and experience developing business cases required
  • Skilled in assessment of project risks and development of effective mitigation strategies
  • Minimum of eight (8) years' of engineering experience
  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, computational mechanics or physics
  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+8 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience)
