Assistant Project Manager (APM)
Location: Richmond, VA
Duration: 12-month contract to hire
Hourly rate: $45-58/hr
Job Overview:
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports project managers on various projects of differing complexity, while also managing smaller, less complex projects independently. The APM serves as the primary coordinator and liaison between clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project execution within the set timeframe and budget.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in overall project efforts for Design-only and/or EPC projects, working with global practices and engineering disciplines.
- Support the development of Request for Proposal (RFP) packages, manage the bid and selection process, and help create detailed scopes of work for downstream contracts.
- Oversee and manage contractors' submittals, RFIs, design instructions, and drawing logs, ensuring contractor compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and material management standards.
- Execute contracts, including change order management, field change directives, approval of invoices, and schedule management.
- Assist in project controls, including cost reporting, scheduling, work breakdown structure establishment, project setup, and closeout.
- Develop and present internal and external reports, such as project budgets, cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and status updates.
- Participate in project risk reviews and consult with the Legal Department as needed.
- Manage contract and project documentation closeout.
- Adhere to and promote Burns & McDonnell's safety programs and policies, ensuring the safety and health of the project team and subcontractors.
Requirements:
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field with 5 years of relevant experience.
- Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment, with the capacity to work overtime on short notice.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Collaborative team player capable of working with owners, contractors, project managers, engineers, and designers in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Experience with Primavera Contract Manager or similar change management software is preferred.
