AutoCAD Operator with a minimum of 5 years AutoCAD experience preferably working in the oil & gas industry. In this role the CAD Operator will be based on-site in Richmond, CA. This role conforms to 9/80 work schedule. Additionally, this role is expected to work a hybrid in-office/work-from-home schedule consisting of a minimum of 3 days per week in-office at the refinery.
 
This is a long-term contract. Local Candidate preferred. No per diem.
 
Position Overview: 
This position will support Designs Engineering, Fixed Equipment Reliability & Inspections, Maintenance, and Operations groups in preparation and delivery of electronic drawing updates. 
The primary support work in this position will be to develop and modify electronic drawings as a result of project completion, shutdown scope completion, inspection strategy changes, and/or process safety study.
Using AutoCAD the CAD Operator will review the drawings, merge, or create new drawings, and issue these drawings for record in the drawing management system by the required deadline set by the team leader and customer. Typical drawing updates will include but not limited to Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, Piping & Equipment Isometrics, Process Flow Diagrams, Electrical One Line Diagrams, and Instrument Loops. Secondary support work in this position will be to support the designers with Laser Scanning in the refinery and processing/registering the laser scan data to allow for the designers to pull this data when a project begins. This support will also be utilized to perform validation and verification on equipment such as tanks, vessels, exchangers, and piping.
 
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Create, maintain, and modify drawings using AutoCAD software. Ensure drawing details meet company and department standards for drawing accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Read and interpret redlined drawings produced by Design Engineering, Engineering Contract Partners, and other operations support groups.
  • Provide support in the management and storage of drawings within the drawing management system on-site.
  • In coordination with engineers and other designers, produce as-built drawings, construction installation details, and equipment arrangements using AutoCAD software.
  • Conduct refinery plant visits to verify in-field conditions of piping and equipment.
  • Assist customers in locating drawings and information in support of refinery project goals.
  • Completes tasks on-time and provides updates to team leader and customers on status of tasks.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and the ability to take on a high volume of work without sacrificing quality and accuracy.
  • Work closely with team leader, designers, and engineers in recommending the best use of CAD and other drafting tools in order to achieve project objectives, troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Perform thorough quality reviews of project turnover drawings to ensure drawings meet the minimum requirements for publishing to the drawing management system.
  • Provide laser scanning support to designer's projects and engineering for equipment V&V's.
  • Demonstrate good character traits, willingness to learn, and rapport with colleagues.
 
 
Qualifications/Skills:
 
Technical Knowledge:
  • High school diploma or GED required. College degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years AutoCAD experience preferably working in the oil & gas industry.
  • Proficient in recent versions of AutoCAD software.
  • Ability to read and understand construction documents such as drawings, sketches, 3D models, etc. Familiar with oil & gas drawings such as Piping & Instrument Diagrams, Piping and Equipment Isometrics, Process Flow Diagrams, Electrical one-line diagrams, Instrument Loop Diagrams, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of other relevant software such as SmartPlant and/or CadWorx plant 3D modeling software. (Preferred)
  • Ability to perform laser scanning and registering of laser scan data. (Preferred)
  • Able to perform refinery plant visits for field verification of equipment, instruments, etc. for drawing updates.
  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.

Refinery Field Visits:
  • This job requires Refinery field visits to verify field conditions, develop designs and review for constructability, perform laser scans, meet with operators engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Walking up to a half mile
  • Climbing stairways and ladders while wearing a backpack
  • Standing for extended periods of time while sketching and verifying field conditions
  • Lifting a ~30lb laser scanner box on a rope up to a platform
  • Wearing normal plant PPE (FRCs, hard hat, safety glasses or goggles, ear plugs, steel toe boots, and gloves)
