Cost Accountant- Mfg

Our client is a global oilfield services company and has a fantastic opportunity for a Cost Accountant based in Houston.

Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills and experience in collaborating and coordinating with various groups, especially manufacturing (mfg) operations. At the plant level, this role supports the implementation of financial plans, forecasts, budgets, performance objective and cost controls, together with appropriate measures, report and analyze to manage the achievement of company goals for growth, profitability, and stability.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Frequent plant manager contact; active participation in plant financial driven discussions
  • Partner with Operations team to solve and continuously improve use of local ERP
  • Partner with Operations to develop new reporting tools for plant management
  • Assist Operations with keeping open sales orders, purchase orders, and shipped-not-invoiced up-to-date.
  • Work with Purchasing to ensure timely costing and analysis of purchase price variance to prevent variances
  • Support Plant Controller in analyzing plant financial performance comparing actuals to plan and forecast.
  • Support Plant Controller in Establishing labor and overhead absorption rates and analyze related variances monthly with quarterly adjustments.
  • Create and publish KPI's and dashboards/metrics that are timely, insightful, and automated by working cross-functionally with multiple Business Units.
  • Lead and report on variances regularly to find ways to improve costing and processes.
  • Identify, coordinate and reviews cost accounting projects, such as price and margin analysis, customer, market and product profitability, data warehouse integrity and reporting, etc.
  • Analyze inventory levels and valuations and support cycle/physical counts. Recommend ways to minimize variances.
  • Complete and month end Mfg. process.
  • Facilitate data gathering and clean-up for annual cost roll.
  • Assists Plan Controller with special projects as required.
  • Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.
  • Work with and develop Strong Communication over Financial MFG Variances.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting (minimum requirement).
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in Accounting Role preferred (MFG setting required)
  • CPA/MBA - Obtained or in the process of obtaining required
  • Strong skills and knowledge of MFG accounting and Standard Costing
  • Working knowledge of the MFG business
  • Strong managerial presence that reflects a "hand-on' participative, pro-active operating style requiring a high energy level and tolerance to tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication; strong planning and organization skills
  • Strong desire to work across teams to find solutions and improve performance.
