Our Client is a leading Industrial Construction and Mechanical Services company in the West providing fabrication, construction, maintenance and turnaround services to the petroleum refining and processing and pipeline and products distribution industries


FIELD ENGINEER 
 
A primary responsibility for the Field Engineer is to assist the Project Manager with change management.   The Field Engineer shall be well versed in the Request for Information (RFI) process; redlining engineering drawings, taking the lead to promote client/engineering feedback and approvals (including completion of Field Change Orders (FCOs)) and understanding the general workflow process with respect to changes are essential for success.  The Field Engineer should have a well-rounded technical background; working basic knowledge of Civil, Structural, Piping, Electrical and Instrumentation/Controls designs typically found in refineries are strongly recommended.  A basic understanding of equipment typically found in refineries is also recommended.   Regular coordination with the Project Manager will be needed.
 
A secondary responsibility for the Field Engineer is to assist the Lead Planner with planning actions prior to and upon receipt of Issued for Construction (IFC) work packages.   This will include, bu
t is not limited to, walking out scopes, coordinating activities with refinery Operations group(s) and closing any/all gaps identified by the Project Manager, Lead Planner or Craft Superintendent.
 
A tertiary responsibility for the Field Engineer is to perform a lead role in system turnover.   This will include, but is not limited to, the following activities:
 
  • Compile and promote closure of punchlists from each construction team and/or Field QA/QC inspections.
  • Understanding and compiling system turnover strategies.
  • Assist the tracking and closeout of permit actions with the jurisdictional entities (City of Carson and County of Los Angeles) and the facility owner.
  • Supporting Field Document Controllers as needed.
 
In addition to the above, minimum Field Engineer requirements are:
 
  • Ability to read basic technical drawings:  P&IDs, piping isometrics, electrical single line diagrams.
  • Great communication and organization skills.
  • Lead job walks as needed.
  • Build simple, clear drawing redlines, either by hand or by .pdf editor (Bluebeam Revu or Adobe Acrobat Professional experience preferred).
 
Other Field Engineer duties may include:
 
  • Assist the Project Manager with duties such as submittals reviews, cost/schedule reporting, change order development, estimating and processing, and various project documentation.
  • Preparing written procedures for special work plans.
  • Attend and document meetings.
  • Assure/perform periodic audits for documents in the field take place to verify the most current revisions are being used.
  • Prepare and coordinate Pressure Test Packages.
  • Research construction problems for potential resolutions.  This may be a part of the RFI process, or proactive in nature.
  • Perform expediting functions.
