Title: GIS Competition Analyst
Location: Remote
Duration: 9 Months with high possibility of extension
OVERVIEW
We are seeking to hire a GIS Competition Analyst to join a team responsible for siting and selecting wind, solar, and storage projects. This is a highly autonomous role focused on data creation, maintenance, and analysis. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), cartographic principles, and technical proficiency. Organization, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines are essential. The candidate must work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, show attention to detail, and operate independently with minimal guidance. Strong computer skills and experience with database-driven applications and GIS software are required.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with departments within the renewable energy development group, including Project Development, Environmental & Permitting, Meteorology, Real Estate, and Acquisitions & Structuring.
- Provide GIS and cartographic support to Business Development, including the creation of production-quality maps.
- Create and edit accurate GIS data and maintain spatial databases.
- Research and evaluate public and private datasets to inform the siting of renewable energy projects.
- Perform research on industry competition projects, interconnection request filings, ownership stakes, and energy markets; analyze environmental and site-specific constraints, zoning and permitting requirements, transmission capacity, and energy pricing; and determine the viability and economics of projects in the market.
- Research government records and online databases to analyze land interests.
- Integrate research findings into GIS and tabular databases for spatial analysis.
- Prepare products and deliverables for regular presentation to decision-makers and stakeholders.
- Import and analyze data submitted by development managers and land acquisition agents to determine and confirm execution authority of contracts.
- Collaborate with a software development team to assist in testing applications and tools to automate workflows.
- Train new team members on competition analyst workflows.
- Work directly with project developers to answer questions and facilitate requests.
This position does not involve managing direct reports.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Geology, Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong skills with Esri ArcGIS desktop software, ArcGIS Online, ArcPro, and Portal.
- Minimum of 3 years of GIS work experience using GIS applications such as ArcGIS and related extensions, relational databases, with a broad knowledge of GIS capabilities.
- Preferred experience in renewable energy development, project-level evaluation, siting, regional transmission grids, real estate and land records, local and state permitting, environmental studies, and economics.
- Experience with design, development, and debugging is preferred.
