Scope: 
Our oil & gas client in El Paso, TX has a Refinery vacancy for an Area Team Instrumentation Engineer in the Engineering Department.
 
Overview
We are seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual with 3-5 years of relevant technical experience to provide instrumentation engineering support for routine maintenance and small project design/management for a refinery operations team. Knowledge of petrochemical applications that include process measurement and control, safety  instrumented system (SIS) design, management of change (MOC) processes, and industry standards (NFPA, ISA, IEEE, NEMA, API, etc.) is preferred. Projects typically range in size from $20,000 - $500,000 and may include capital improvements and/or modifications needed to properly maintain and optimize existing operating units. Management of multiple projects concurrently is required. This position will be based out of Refinery in El Paso, TX.
 
Responsibilities
  • Providing instrument engineering support and troubleshooting skills for Area Teams
  • Provides day-to-day instrumentation engineering advice and expertise. 
  • Conducts troubleshooting, sizing, selection and specification of instrumentation, analyzers, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), safety systems, and instrument and electronic equipment. 
  • Performs root cause analysis investigating operating and maintenance events and works with Reliability Engineering to provide recommendations to eliminate Bad Actors. Develops and implements action plans and solutions to address equipment deficiencies. 
  • Reviewing drawings, documents, and equipment datasheets to meet refinery needs and assures compliance to corporate standards and specifications.
  • Coordinating work of in-house designers and outside engineering contractors
  • Participating in area HAZOP reviews and incident investigations.
  • Managing multiple projects and assignments in a timely, safe, and cost-effective manner
  • Applying project management skills in all phases of project engineering from conception to closeout Developing scope, cost estimates, and schedules for projects. 
  • Provides discipline input and equipment selection oversight to engineering projects. 
  • Interacting daily with project team members developing and executing project objectives
  • Participates in factory acceptance tests and site acceptance tests. 
  • Participates in commissioning and startup activities, including loop checking and calibration of instruments and analyzers.
  • Conferring with management and project stakeholders throughout a project's life cycle.
  • Providing instrumentation assistance to the Area Teams during process unit Turnarounds. 
  • Works with Turnaround teams to plan and implement instrument activities during Turnarounds. 
  • Mentoring instrumentation technicians in technologies and work practices. Works with departments to ensure personnel understand function, capabilities and limitations of instrumentation. 
 
Minimum (Required) Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution 
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • A valid driver's license is required. 
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years post-degree engineering experience in the refining or petrochemical industry 
  • Experience with engineering and construction of refining or petrochemical industry projects (stage gate process)
