Instrumentation Technician (Electrical Technician)

Location: Frederick, MD
Shift: Rotating schedule between days and nights

Job Summary:

We are seeking an Instrumentation Technician (Electrical Technician) to join our team in Frederick, MD. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of electrical and control systems for roofing manufacturing lines and ancillary equipment. The ideal candidate must have experience in industrial electrical systems and programming, with a commitment to safety and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize safety in all tasks, supporting the company's goal of a Zero Incident Safety Culture.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with environmental rules and regulations in all work activities.
  • Execute electrical and controls maintenance for manufacturing lines and related systems.
  • Troubleshoot and modify plant equipment programs to improve sequencing, alarms, and troubleshooting functions within plant PLCs, HMIs, and automated systems.
  • Perform industrial electrical work on systems and wiring up to 480V, becoming certified as a Level 1 Electrician.
  • Support equipment calibration, programming installations, and machine setup.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Update and revise system layouts, detailed drawings, and schematics.
  • Analyze operational data to identify and resolve performance issues.
  • Maintain critical environmental and process control systems.
  • Perform industrial maintenance activities, both planned and emergency production line support.
  • Occasionally provide "on call" support as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. A technical degree in Industrial Electrical, Controls, or Automation is strongly preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 4-5 years of relevant experience in electrical systems and controls maintenance.
    • Proficiency in working with electrical distribution systems up to 480V.
    • Preferred experience with Siemens PLCs (505 or S7), Siemens AC Vector Drives, and Wonderware.
    • Experience with CMMS (such as SAP) is preferred.
    • Drafting experience in AutoCAD or Autodesk Inventor is a plus, but not required.
    • Certification or ability to become certified in the operation of powered industrial vehicles such as forklifts and man lifts.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to both indoor and outdoor working conditions.
  • Must work around mechanical systems and energized electrical systems with appropriate PPE.
  • Requires ability to climb stairs/ladders, kneel, crawl, and perform other physical activities to inspect and maintain equipment.
  • Exposure to fumes, odors, and airborne particles, with required use of PPE.
  • Occasional work in extreme heat, confined spaces, and noisy environments with provided hearing protection.
