Operations Supervisor- Renewable Fuels Refinery
Our client is a Southern California-based renewable energy company with the principle that renewable fuels should come from non-food based sources that are environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable.
They are looking for an Operations Supervisor to be accountable for managing and coaching Shift Team Leaders (STLs) to meet operational objectives. A primary component of this role is field leadership, mentoring and developing STLs and Operators. It includes understanding of the business plan for their area of responsibility and supporting the shift teams to achieve these objectives with a strong focus on excellent HSE performance. This role also develops the long-term strategy for their respective operating area and works closely with HR, driving consistency across the site at their renewable fuels biorefinery, located in Bakersfield, CA.
The Operations Supervisor will also be responsible to
- Ensure personal and process safety as well as environmental stewardship
- Enforce policies, procedures and guidelines related to HSSE issues
- Ensure Code of Conduct is understood and followed for STL's and Operators
- Enforce performance standards for STLs and Operators
- Support STL's in leading the shift teams to define and deliver objectives each shift
- Escalate to additional levels of support when STL's and shift teams need assistance to meet those objectives or mitigate threats
- Utilize ESP health checks to identify organizational and individual improvement opportunities
- Ensure Operator training plans are developed, and that job qualification requirements and proficiency is maintained
- Encourage the use of performance management tools to manage performance gaps and development opportunities
- Effectively manage use of overtime
- Perform other related tasks as assigned
- Oversees Operational team including Shift Team Leads and Operators for the process and logistics including training
- Meets production operational standards by implementing production, productivity and quality standards; works with supporting personnel to achieve optimal production and profitability of asset performance
- Manages schedules and budgets
Required Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- At least ten years of operational refinery or chemical plant experience required, preferred to have increasing operations management responsibility
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
- Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy
- Able to give and receive feedback and constructive criticism from a variety of channels
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Understands plant integration and impact of common systems (such as utilities, hydrogen, amine systems) on various units
- Has a fundamental understanding of process and equipment operation, such as distillation, hydrotreating, pump and compressor details.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong knowledge of hydroprocessing
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge and familiarity of of DCS
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
