Job Description:
The Pipe Designer in the West Gulf Coast region is responsible for the detailed mechanical design and execution support of a wide variety of small to medium projects at various operating Clients facilities. The PROS team supports HyCO and Air Separation facilities located predominately in the Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas areas. The PROS team maintains a multi-skilled team to implement EH&S, productivity, and reliability projects rapidly and in coordination with the operating facilities.
Preferred candidates have:
Excellent technical and communication skills accompanied by a broad knowledge of construction best practices and industry design practices is required. This position has direct accountability to the Regional Project Lead located at the Pasadena, TX office, which serves as the WGC PROS hub in Texas. Additionally, the PROS team in Texas is responsible for plant turnarounds in Texas and several locations throughout the country. Support for these turnarounds, including on-site support, will be required in this role.

- Travel: Position requires approximately 25% travel, mostly day trips in the Houston area, but some overnight trips required to outlying plants. Plant turnarounds require full-time on-site presence for durations up to 3 weeks.
Role & Responsibilities:
The Pipe Designer in the PROS organization works at the direction of the Project Engineers and Lead Pipe Designer in the group while consulting with the local operations teams, the customers. The Pipe Designer is responsible for ensuring all designs produced are accurate, can be safely executed, follow all clients pipe specifications and standards and do not introduce any inherent safety risks. The Pipe Designer is responsible for communicating with the Project Engineers on what open items need to be resolved so that design can progress. The Pipe Designer is responsible for raising any design concerns to the Project Engineers for escalation.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Develop designs that can be safely executed and follow all clients specifications and standards.
- Responsible for deliverables associated with all phases of the project lifecycle including: simple sketches, conceptual models, BOM for budgetary pricing, issue for bid quality isometrics, issue for construction quality isometrics, 3D model when appropriate.
- MicroStation V8i for Drafting P&ID's in all phases of the project. Hand mark-ups are not acceptable to provide to operations team.
- Responsible for learning clients documentation system and uploading final project documents at completion of work.
- Utilize accepted clients software and programs to develop design: MicroStation V8i, Smart Plant 3D, Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience designing in Smart Plant 3D is preferred.
- The use of programs not provided by clients is strictly prohibited.
- Provide support for field activities at the request of the Project Engineers.
- Incorporate feedback from relevant parties into design ensuring customer is satisfied and scope is clear to contractors.
- Conduct shop visits during pre-fabrication to ensure constructed spool match isometrics.
- Witness off-site hydrotests as needed.
- Beyond mechanical design, responsible for calling out the following requirements: insulation, NDE, coatings, ASME code.
- Ability to segregate pre-fabrication scope from field executed scope with the goal of minimizing the quantity of field welds.
- Ability to work and communicate with technical experts outside the group - Pressure Systems, Process Engineers, Stress Engineers, Manual and Control Valve Experts.
- Ability to meet agree upon deadlines set by Regional Lead and Project Engineers; communicate ahead of time if deadlines cannot be reached.
- While on-site, expected to follow all safety requirements, work with contractors to ensure safe work practices are being followed, conduct safety audits and coach others on safety best practices.

- High ethical standards - unwilling to compromise on worker safety and regulatory compliance requirements
- Basic understanding of the process technologies employed at APCI facilities in region
