The GTL Plant Operator is responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of a nominal 50 bbl/day gas to liquid plant, consisting of a modular design that includes 3 skidded enclosed process units, a single Can SMR, a fixed bed reactor, distillation skid, and Tankage (including a truck product loading capability).
 
  • Operates a modular process unit consisting of compressors, pumps, filters, and
  • exchangers with SMR and Liquid Fuel Production reactor and distillation
  • Operates plant equipment & system
  • Effectively communicates plant operating status to management
  • Monitors and reviews the process condition of the unit through a DCS screen board system
  • Oversees and takes required action on any upset condition of the plant; protects equipment with proper isolation or shutdown
  • Start-up/Shutdown(s) of plant equipment
  • Adjusts controls to operate equipment in the recommended or prescribed operating ranges
  • Visually inspects equipment and controls at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication
  • De-pressures equipment and piping systems
  • Operates valves
  • Monitors plant and operations; responds to emergency or upset conditions
  • Operates under Process Safety Management (PSM) as required
  • Implements safe work practices and participates in proactive safety culture while ensuring safety for the employee, public and environment at all times
  • Reads, monitors and records various operating conditions such as pressure, temperature, hours of operations, fuel consumed, water levels, etc
  • Performs minor maintenance on equipment including, but not limited to reciprocating natural gas compressors, pumps, fluid separation equipment, valves, etc
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance (PM) e.g. remove and replace filters, oil, chemicals, other lubricating fluids, gaskets, and valves as needed
  • Changes gauges
  • Maintains sites in a clean condition including picking up/taking out trash, control weeds and grassy areas, minor painting, etc.
 
Required Skills & Abilities
  • 10+ years' experience in oil refinery process engineering, controls or operations
  • Demonstrated chemical & mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of the operation, control and general design of various kinds of systems typically present in a processing or fractionation plant
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, such as, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical solutions is required
  • Able to read and understand engineering documentation P&ID diagrams, Cause and Effect diagram, Electrical One-Line, Equipment Manuals, Equipment Data Sheets, Pump Curves
  • Basic computer skills such as opening, creating and updating content in MS Word documents and Excel spreadsheets
