Job Title: Process Controls Engineer

Location: Plano, TX

Job Summary
 The Process Controls Engineer provides process control engineering solutions and support to our client's Operations and Technical teams. This role involves working with industrial automation, plant control systems, and data communication applications. The Process Controls Engineer possesses working job knowledge and experience and is typically on a steep learning curve, progressing toward full competency and becoming an independent problem solver and decision maker. The incumbent will perform a range of moderately complex assignments, developing the ability to handle more advanced work, and will analyze possible solutions using standard procedures, guidelines, or policies with moderate supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides direct support to operations, including onsite field support as needed
  • Under supervision, develops industrial automation, plant control, database, and data communication applications using advanced software tools
  • Assists in developing mid-to-complex PLC (Process Logic Controller) or DCS (Distributed Control System) applications for midstream facilities
  • Contributes to control system development on platforms such as DeltaV, Allen-Bradley Logix, ABB FlowX, Omni, and Modicon
  • Develops HMI (Human-Machine Interface) visualization applications across platforms such as DeltaV, GE, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider, and Wonderware
  • Creates functional specifications, cause & effect diagrams, control narratives, I/O lists, and SCADA configuration sheets for remote and local facilities
  • Supports design, programming, testing, and integration of PLC and DCS platforms including DeltaV, Allen-Bradley RS Logix, Modicon, and FlowX
  • Collaborates within our client's Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Engineering team to resolve operational issues
  • Participates in factory acceptance testing (FAT), customer acceptance testing (CAT), and coordinates SCADA point-to-point testing and loop checks with Operations
  • Follows our client's Management of Change (MOC) procedures for all programming and system upgrades
  • Reviews project documentation including drawings, specifications, and control loop narratives
  • Provides support for capital and expense projects, conducting feasibility studies and simulations to assess economic and technical impact
  • Participates in company initiatives such as alarm management, defect elimination, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and MOC compliance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field from an ABET-accredited program
  • 3-5 years of experience in midstream pipeline and/or gas processing preferred; OR 6+ years in refining or upstream oil & gas required
  • 3-5 years of experience with DeltaV programming and support in continuous process environments, preferably in midstream gas or downstream refining
  • Additional experience in programming languages such as Visual Basic, C++/C#, and Microsoft SQL Server is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with PHMSA regulations, DOT Part 195, and applicable design standards (ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8) and API Recommended Practices
  • Willingness to travel overnight to company locations as needed
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC card
  • Must be willing to undergo DOT drug and alcohol screening

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Master's Degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program
  • 5-8 years of engineering experience within a midstream operating company
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
  • Strong preference for candidates with in-plant process controls engineering experience
