Duration: 2-3 months

Support capital projects group by ensuring process safety and HSSE risks are managed to ALARP throughout the various project phases.  This includes SELECT phase early risk identification, detailed design, commissioning, and start up activities.    
 
Job Responsibilities:                        
Projects sizes ranging from $10 to $150 mln.   Typically, responsible for one to six projects depending on size and complexity of the projects.  The projects can be located at either the Convent, Geismar, and/or Norco sites.   The person will follow the project from either ASSESS or SELECT phase thru commissioning/start up.  The primary responsibility for SELECT/DEFINE phase is to lead a process/project team to deliver a process design that meets the project premise, operates safely, and environmentally compliant.  For smaller projects this position may fill in and act as the Front End Development Manager in the ASSESS phase.   
 
Responsibilities:
  • Will act as the safety technical authority for project PCAP deliverables.
  • Will be responsible for preparing and facilitating project PHAs 
  • Will provide guidance on DEP deviation and derogations /achieves ALARP
  • Develop the HSSE and SP activity plans for Norco Projects and tailor HEMP studies to the scope and complexity of each project
  • HEMP studies 
  • Develop the scope of work to be performed by the engineering firms for the various stage gates.
  • Coordinate and arrange the basic data (flow rates, compositions, intermediate & final product specifications, pressure, temperatures, etc.) necessary for the process design
  • Prepare mark ups of PFDs and P&IDs
  • In the SELECT/DEFINE/EXECUTE phase is responsible for managing the integrated technical team to deliver the final process design. Ensures the process design team provides the necessary data to finalize documentation as defined by the PCAL/DCAF. 
  • Expected to fill a Process Engineering TA2 role for specific project deliverables.
  • Leads and facilitates resolution of key investigations related to process design.
  • Supports the BOM and FEDM to align key stakeholders
  • Will follow the project thru commissioning and start-up phase and will provide process/technical support through the life of the project.  (i.e. - OMAR, PHA, MOC, RCM, ESP, 3D model reviews, sign off line lists, participate in MOCs, participate in hazop, review new or modified procedures developed by the project etc.
 
Position Requirements:                
Education: BS in Chemical Engineering
Other engineering disciplines will be considered with appropriate experience. 
10+ years of supporting a (chemical or refining) manufacturing site with a broad range of unit experience is preferred.  
The candidate should be familiar with the project work process and the deliverables at the different stage gates.
