Project Supervisor (Field Ops)

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for managing and direct supervision of technical personnel, including onboarding and training Field Scientists, administration, Health & Safety (H&S), documenting and executing project work, project momentum, quality of the work product, and technical support. Responsible for project scoping, preparation, and coordination support, as well as, obtaining sufficient work to maintain individual and group productivity. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Field Operations Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Manage all projects safely
  2. Review and enforce Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) at work sites
  3. Maintain inventory of field supplies
  4. Maintain productivity of group to consistently meet and exceed productivity goals
  5. Plan for non-billable work tasks when no billable work is available
  6. Support, implement, and enforce company policies and procedures
  7. Serve as the direct supervisor of assigned personnel (group size ~ 5-8) and provide regular performance reviews and best practices to retain
  8. Train, mentor, develop, and oversee field personnel in tasks associated with the project's scope of work and all aspects of job site safety
  9. Effectively delegate in the execution of projects with limited supervision
  10. Identify, coach, and mentor staff in the technical, administrative, and client relations activities required to successfully complete projects
  11. Develop and implement onboarding/training plan of new employees
  12. Setup jobs: develop load list, develop field instructions, and secure travel/lodging
  13. Monitor performance of field personnel and subcontractors in order to ensure compliance with project requirements
  14. Monitor quality and consistency of fieldwork, including site inspections, equipment, fleet size and care, job site H&S, etc.
  15. Participate in client pre-construction meetings
  16. Assist Field Operations Manager with interviewing, vetting, and securing candidates
  17. Review and approve timesheets and expense reports
  18. Track training, certifications, and continuing education credits
  19. Assist Field Operations Manager with overseeing maintenance of vehicle fleet
  20. Assist with cost estimating, proposal preparation, site walks, and project scoping, as requested
  21. Communicate changes in scope to internal clients, as necessary
  22. Coordinate and assist other Service Areas with preparation of field budgets, as necessary

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Techniques of environmental investigation
  • Regulatory cleanup programs and guidance
  • Calibrating and using various types of field equipment
  • Interpreting geologic and hydrogeologic information and chemical data

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education: B.S. in geology, environmental science, construction management, or related field

Experience: 5+ years of field experience in environmental work. Some management and training, or construction experience is preferred.

Skills: Strong computer and verbal/written communication skills are a must

Certifications: OSHA HAZWOPER Certification (40 hours) is required.

Additional requirements: Must have a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and physically capable of operating vehicles safely. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather and meet the physical requirements of the job.

JOB CONTEXT

70% office (controlled environment), 30% field/site visit travel (environmental job hazards)

This classification requires travel to various project locations. Travel involves day trips within the state or neighboring states, resulting in longer workdays; and extended and/or further travel, resulting in multiple days and overnights. Long-term remote assignments can be required. Some assignments require intermittent 24-hour on call duty.
