Position Overview
Our Client is seeking a Quality Control Inspector / Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with strong hands-on welding and pipefitting background to support inspection and quality assurance activities within the Tyler, TX refinery. This individual will play a key role in ensuring that all fabrication, repairs, and modifications to piping and equipment meet applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
The ideal candidate brings both practical field welding/pipefitting experience and strong inspection knowledge to bridge the gap between craft work and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspection and verification of welds, piping, and structural components in accordance with ASME, API, and AWS codes and refinery standards.
- Oversee and monitor welding procedures, qualifications, and welder performance to ensure compliance with approved specifications.
- Conduct dimensional checks, fit-up inspections, and final acceptance of fabricated and installed piping/equipment.
- Review and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, WPS/PQRs, and other technical documentation.
- Perform non-destructive examination (NDE) visual inspections; coordinate additional NDE with third-party providers as required.
- Generate accurate inspection reports, maintain quality records, and track deficiencies through resolution.
- Work closely with construction, maintenance, and turnaround teams to provide QC oversight during welding, piping, and fabrication activities.
- Identify and report deviations, recommend corrective actions, and ensure timely resolution.
- Support turnaround, capital project, and maintenance teams with QA/QC documentation and turnover packages.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years' experience in welding and pipefitting, with at least 3–5 years in QC Inspection/CWI roles within refining, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of ASME Section IX, API 570/510/650, and relevant refinery codes and standards.
- Ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with refinery safety standards and practices.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work in field conditions (outdoors, elevated structures, confined spaces).
Preferred
- API certifications (570, 510, or 653) considered a plus.
- Experience with refinery turnarounds, maintenance, or capital projects.
- Previous work at Delek or similar downstream operators.
