Rotating Equipment Engineer

What you will do:
  • Individual will primarily be working as rotating equipment lead on Clean Ammonia mega project
  • Investigate rotating equipment problems and design modifications to improve reliability, productivity and safety. The investigations will frequently involve failure analysis to determine the root cause of equipment failures and recommend improvements in design, administrative, and/or PPM measures to reduce or eliminate failures.
  • Develop new rotating equipment specifications based on the requirements of the Operations, Reliability, and Maintenance departments. Responsible for drafting project requests forms, reviewing supplier quotations, and making recommendations for purchase.
  • Coordinate with original equipment manufacturers (OEM's) regarding new rotating and turbomachinery specification, design, and purchases. This may include travel to local and abroad shops for QC visits associated with equipment manufacturing processes.
  • Be responsible for direct oversight of Inspection and Test Plans (ITP's) associated with new equipment manufacturing and field installation
  • Perform random safety audits on workers performing jobs on site to ensure adherence to site safety policies. Performs equipment and Production history data analysis to identify and prioritize areas for reliability improvements
  • Develop optimized predictive/preventive maintenance schedules for new rotating equipment and incorporated into CMMS system (Oracle EAM)
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) initiatives by actively participating in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) program, MOC initiation and review, and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) associated with capital projects
  • Be expected to have some familiarity with fixed equipment engineering principles and code knowledge to fill in for fixed equipment maintenance engineer as needed or help with project work surges in the area of fixed equipment.
  • Manage multiple projects as required
  • Apply technical expertise and strong project leadership to site and contract resources for project follow through
  • Do Engineering calculation to include but not limited to; flow and flow measurement calculation, sizing process equipment, and basic Compressor/Turbine/Pump calculation
  • Assist in Process designs including equipment specifications, operating instructions, training, process P & ID's and management of change
  • Perform and/or initiates effective and timely engineering and technical studies to troubleshoot known plant problems, predict impending problems and to optimize plant operations as needed
  • Develop a Conceptual Design Package for capital projects prior to hand off to project manager
  • Perform and/or contribute to Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and incident investigations and complete assigned action items on schedule
  • Ensure that Process Flow Diagrams (PFD's), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P & ID's) are complete and up to date
  • Promote and contribute to site Manufacturing Excellence and Operations Driven Reliability (ODR) processes
  • Identify and facilitate implementation of production, reliability, efficiency, and cost improvement opportunities
  • Perform special studies/projects as directed by the Engineering Manager
  • Oversee specific material and equipment usage for best engineering practices
  • Review new technologies and attempt to apply them to local operations
  • Provide active support and participate in the departmental safety and environmental programs
  • Interface with all levels of plant personnel and Divisional Technical personnel
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required
  • Minimum of 5+ years project engineering experience in chemical manufacturing or related industries successfully meeting cost, schedule and functional requirements. Fertilizer manufacturing Chemical process manufacturing experience required.
  • Rotating equipment API and ANSI code knowledge associated with Pumps, Compressors, and Turbines required
  • Experience working on large Capital Projects where responsible for all rotating equipment scope
  • Read and understand written material (in English), including use and understanding of basic advanced numerical calculations
  • Proficient in computer applications for data trending, tracking action item closure, procedure writing, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs, isometric piping drawings, instrumentation control loops, equipment detailed drawings, and other technical documentation
  • Excellent and proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Engineering software, Trouble shooting, Process Safety Management, Process design/improvement
  • Must be able to deal effectively with people and resolve conflicts and problems
  • Able to organize and prioritize multiple projects and makes adjustments quickly as needed
  • Ability to accept direction and work effectively & cooperatively with other people
  • Must possess excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with both company and contract employees
  • Must be goal orientated, self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Must have excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Must possess valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record that meets company standards
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card
  • Successful completion and passing of company pre-employment background check, drug screen and other related testing
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Must be willing to work in protected areas at heights greater than six (6) feet above ground
  • Must be able to work over water (dock)
  • Must be able to reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance
  • Must be willing to occasionally work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed and required
  • Must be available to respond to call-out as assigned
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor, keep required work schedule, focus on attention to details, and follow work       rules
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with fellow workers and demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures
  • Must be able to withstand moderate noise levels
