Position Overview:
The Safety & Health Manager 1 is a field-based position responsible for implementing and maintaining safety and health procedures on larger, moderately complex construction projects. This role focuses on safety management across multiple sites, including transmission, distribution, and substations, with a significant portion of the work in Texas. The position will initially serve as vacation coverage through the summer but could transition to a permanent role based on performance.
The Safety & Health Manager 1 is a field-based position responsible for implementing and maintaining safety and health procedures on larger, moderately complex construction projects. This role focuses on safety management across multiple sites, including transmission, distribution, and substations, with a significant portion of the work in Texas. The position will initially serve as vacation coverage through the summer but could transition to a permanent role based on performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain the Company's Safety and Health Procedures on assigned projects.
- Conduct detailed safety and health inspections across multiple sites.
- Manage project security contracts, programs, and policies.
- Administer the project's Drug and Alcohol Substance Abuse Program.
- Develop and conduct employee safety and health training programs.
- Perform incident, injury, and illness investigations, and write detailed reports.
- Administer worker's compensation programs and procedures.
- Supervise a team of safety professionals, including Safety and Health Interns and Safety and Health Specialists.
- Interface with clients and government officials regarding safety and health compliance.
- Provide on-site first aid and medical services as needed.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and contribute to change management initiatives.
- Supervise, train, develop, and manage direct reports.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Certification: BCSP certification (minimum CHST required).
- Experience: At least 3 years in a construction environment, with 5+ years in safety and health management. Experience in transmission, distribution, and substation projects is essential.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of safety and health standards, worker's compensation policies, construction contracting strategies, and safety program administration.
- Skills: Strong communication, conflict management, and human relations skills. Ability to perform first aid and medical functions. Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Certifications: First Aid, CPR, Drug Testing Certification, OSHA 500/501, Safety and Health Program Administration, OSHA 10-hour.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of substance abuse policies and construction contracting strategies.
- Ability to perform as a safety and health consultant to clients and internal teams.
- Ability to interface effectively with client and government officials.
Additional Information:
- This is a 100% field-based position, with more than half of the work taking place in Texas.
- There is no per diem; workers will need to submit receipts for expenses.
- A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check is required. While no company truck will be provided, a rental vehicle may be available.
- The position may transition from temporary to permanent based on performance.
