Safety - Refinery
Our Client is a leading provider of Industrial Construction and Mechanical Services in the West.
They are looking for a Safety Rep- Refinery to prepare project reports, may provide emergency medical care, and perform safety surveys. Investigates accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures and developing safety program: Inspects worksites and prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action: Tests working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards, using decibel meter, gas detector, and light meter: Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment, such as glasses, helmets, goggles, respirators, and clothing: Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and local safety, health, and environmental regulations for a major refinery project in Carson, CA.
Required Experience
* Safety experience and/or two years technical training, and/or EMT or Paramedical certification preferred.
* Formal education in safety may waive entry level safety requirements.
* Minimum requirements for acceptance are the completion of basic safety courses that demonstrate a candidate's initial understanding of applicable rules, laws and regulations governing occupational safety and health.
* Communication skills should be refined to provide for both verbal and written communication to project management and the client as required.
* Knowledge of governmental HSE standards, rules, and regulations.
* Knowledge of client best practices and standards utilized in our work environments.
* Sound understanding of hazard recognition/mitigation techniques
* Possess training and presentation skills
* Must be able to communicate with all levels of the Company, plant employees, contractors, and community.
* Job requirements may include the need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery.
* Able to work well in a highly disciplined team environment.
* Work independently with limited supervision.
* Coordinate safety program implementation, management, and refinement.
* Support when applicable based on-site exposures, Workers Compensation Program, and case management.
* Attend monthly 'All-Hands' calls coordinated by Corporate HSSE.
Preferred Experience
* Degree/certification in Health, Safety and Environmental Management or related science/engineering area preferred; and/or equivalent experience/training leading to the thorough understanding of health, safety and environmental disciplines.
* Experience working on multi-employer worksites with contractors.
* Knowledge of governmental HSE standards, rules and regulations.
* Knowledge of client best practices and standards utilized in our work environments.
* Sound understanding of hazard recognition/mitigation techniques
* Ability to work with computers and automated information systems for safety.
* Possess training and presentation skills
* Must be able to communicate with all levels of the Company, plant employees, contractors and community.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
* Travel to and between work-site locations.
* Job requirements may include the need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery.
* Able to work well in a highly disciplined team environment.
* Work independently with limited supervision.
* Coordinate safety program implementation, management and refinement.
Physical Activities
* Able to wear and use PPE as required to manage job operations.
* Climb ladders and stairways.
* Walk jobsites often on uneven terrain.
* Wear a respirator if required.
Must be able to pass refinery drug screening and background requirements.
