Roles and Responsibilities:

Our client is an industrial gas manufacturing company and has a fantastic opportunity for a Plant Supervisor for their Gulf Coast gas production facility in Texas City, TX.


Reporting to the Superintendent, the Supervisor will have broad responsibilities in supporting the site as part of the local Leadership Team in all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the Texas City, team and equipment. The individual will be responsible to lead a team of 12-13 Plant Operators and Shift Team Leads in operating and maintaining a 3600 metric ton per day ammonia synthesis plant and associated product pipeline. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to gain technical proficiency to provide backup for the other unit supervisors within the facility.


Job Duties:

  • Supervise regular scheduled activities & special projects, and act to remedy any difficulties.
  • Support of all aspects of the day-to-day operation, including supervising operators
  • Leading the investigation of unexpected plant events to resolve root cause and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence of issues.
  • Assuring adherence to AP Operating procedures and Global Safety Standards
  • Ensuring sites compliance with Preventative Maintenance tasks, Compliance Management tasks, Red Border action items, etc.
  • Ensure smooth running of the operation activities as it relates to managing staff, equipment, contractors, etc.
  • Ensure that every employee participate in the BSP (Basic Safety Program).
  • Achieving environmental compliance targets.
  • Provide support to the West Gulf Coast Pipeline Team in managing the ammonia pipeline.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining plant budget.
  • Work with PROS (Project Resources & Outage Services) group for Projects and Turnaround Planning.
  • Approve and ensure weekly pay data is accurately entered into SAP for processing.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA PSM regulations and provide mandatory training according to client procedures & policies.
  • Serve as Emergency Coordinator for incidents that may arise during operation of the facility.
  • Implement Best Practices designed to produce optimal safety and reliability of operating assets.


Education Requirements:

  • 5 years minimum of Plant Operator experience in the petrochemical field required.
  • Experience working in an ammonia or methanol plant preferred. Will consider similar petrochemical experience.
  • B.S. degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.


Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across broad range of operational, technical, and commercial areas.
  • Experience in the safe operation of a large-scale ammonia synthesis plant is desired.
  • Experience with Emergency Management as an Incident Commander is desired.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment and diverse team setting.
  • Self-motivated and well organized with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Desire to make a measurable positive impact to plant performance and client's profitability.
  • Demonstrated commitment to EH&S with a track record of success on Safety, Environmental protection, Quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • A strong commitment to employee involvement, team building and diversity/inclusion.
  • Ability to effectively interface with support groups; ability to promote respect and teamwork in the workplace.
  • Experience interfacing with on-site customers in an industrial setting is desired.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in managing O&M contracts is desired.
  • Computer literacy, MS Office platform proficiency.
  • Must be willing and able to provide support on a 24/7 basis via phone call, instant messaging, video conference, or, if needed, physical presence at facility.
