Position Summary
The Machinist III is responsible for manufacturing complex, detailed components and tooling from blueprints, sketches, models, or verbal instructions. This role involves setting up and operating CNC mills, CNC lathes, manual machine tools, grinders, and related equipment while applying advanced mathematical and geometric calculations. The Machinist III ensures parts meet strict tolerances using precision measuring instruments and may support prototype development activities or assist engineering teams with new product designs and process improvements. Typical work includes setting up medium-complexity, new, or unproven parts as well as proven medium-to-high-complexity components.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and maintain CNC milling and turning centers based on complex blueprints, models, and process specifications.
  • Access job information, including routings, drawings, tool lists, and work instructions.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding solutions for a variety of materials and machining processes.
  • Record part quantities, operations performed, and process data in the ERP system.
  • Perform precise dimensional measurements to verify conformance to tight tolerances and quality requirements.
  • Inspect completed parts, identify defects, and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance machining efficiency and tooling effectiveness.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment following all safety regulations.
  • Assist in developing machining processes and tooling strategies for complex components when required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience & Education
  • 6–8 years of related machining experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
  • Ability to interpret complex blueprints, customer specifications, and work instructions.
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of machining principles, feeds/speeds, cutting tools, and materials.
  • Proficient with basic computer functions and ERP data entry.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strict adherence to safety procedures and a commitment to maintaining a clean, organized work area.
  • Excellent math skills, including fractions, decimals, and dimensional calculations.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Capable of reaching, handling, and manipulating parts and tools for long durations.
  • Adequate vision for close work, depth perception, and fine measurement tasks.
