Civil Engineering Technician - Water

We are seeking a Civil Engineering Technician to join our Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) team. Under close supervision, this role performs basic functions requiring technical knowledge and the use of electronic applications, standards, and document control processes and procedures to support the creation or modification of design deliverables.
You will be responsible for the development of site drainage, grading, and utility plans using Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley Microstation. The role supports client needs related to water, wastewater, linear pipelines, and other water-related infrastructure. Experience using Civil 3D is required, particularly with pipe/pressure networks, grading surfaces, and plan and profile development.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Standards
- Understand and implement current standards, systems, document control processes, and departmental guides and procedures.
Quality / Continuous Improvement
- Apply quality control practices to ensure deliverables are accurate and compliant.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and review design inputs for consistency.
- Ensure deliverables meet applicable codes and standards for the project.
Engineering Production
- Use engineering software and tools to evaluate and improve methods and processes.
- Develop deliverables from a variety of design inputs.
- Perform basic computations including material quantity estimates and dimensional checks.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate with other groups to avoid interference or design conflicts.
- Support field activities and assist in project finalization tasks, such as assembling as-built drawings or information.
Client Focus
- Understand and support the needs of internal clients while learning the priorities and drivers of external clients.
Knowledge Sharing, Innovation & Technology
- Stay current with technology and process improvements.
- Apply sound judgment and interpretation in design work.
People Management (if applicable)
- May provide direction, mentorship, or supervision to junior staff.
Required Skills:
- Autodesk Civil 3D
- Autodesk AutoCAD
- Bluebeam
- Familiarity with relevant electronic applications such as CAD and other design tools
- Ability to interpret engineering deliverables
- Knowledge of engineering standards, quality programs, and design principles
- Basic understanding of construction and constructability practices
- Awareness of industry trends and technologies
Education & Experience:
- Diploma or Certificate preferred; Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design-related Technology is a plus
- Typically requires a minimum of 1 year of related work experience
- Ability to pass all pre-employment onboarding requirements, which may include background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle records check, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
