Essential Responsibilities
The Construction Manager/Accountant performs professional level construction oversight and cost accounting work in the management of large environmental remediation projects. The position requires considerable knowledge of accounting principles, accounting functions, and cost accounting software tools. This individual is responsible for the maintenance of comprehensive cost tracking of projects in relation to approved budgets, support in the review and processing of change orders, and coordination with various committees to secure approvals, accounts payable and support of the development/tracking of the annual project budgets.
Additional responsibilities include review and processing of invoices for approval, maintenance of accounting files, negotiation and maintenance of contracts with support companies and vendors, preparation of financial analyses, etc. This individual may be asked to assist with other project management tasks and general office support tasks when necessary.
Examples of Duties
Approximate Percent of Time
15% - Support Construction Management, including field audits and vendor support
35% - Handle and process all aspects of construction payables, including coding, processing of invoices and maintenance of the cost tracking, cost projections and chart of accounts. Review of contractor invoices and process contractor payment applications for monthly billings
20% - Monthly review of job cost activity, contractor budgets and remaining scope ensuring consistent and proper coding. Maintenance of monthly budget summaries and assistance with annual reporting of cost projections.
15% - Participation in meetings with clients, agencies (e.g. USEPA and NJDEP) and construction contractors and generation of meeting minutes.
5% - Assist in the management of bank accounts, trusts, and related reporting, including progress reports.
Experience Required
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job using a combination of skills and abilities.
* Must be detailed oriented and highly reliable.
* Must have considerable knowledge with basic accounting principles (i.e., journal entries, debits, credits, etc.) and accounting functions. Job cost and construction experience will be key for this position.
* Ability to work independently and complete duties and projects with little direct supervision.
* Familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) a plus.
* Knowledge of or familiarity with using Procore Project Management Pro software a plus.
* Ability to accurately work while meeting deadlines.
* Must be proficient with Excel, Word and Outlook applications. Familiarity with MS Project and PowerPoint applications a plus.

Education and Certification Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or other related business field. A technical degree with considerable accounting education will be considered.
- Certified Construction Manager or an equivalent a plus
- Valid Driver License and Auto Insurance
