Cost Control Technician
Our client was founded with the principle that renewable fuels should come from non-food based sources that are environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable.
The Company is upgrading and modifying an existing oil refinery to produce renewable diesel fuel, propane, and naphtha from sustainable low carbon feedstocks.
They are looking for a Cost Control Technician report to the Project Controls Manager and performs a variety of administrative tasks to assist the project team with managing costs of projects. This position will assist with all levels of the project cycle from assigning project numbers through ensuring the proper project execution and closing processes for all projects at the renewable fuels refinery in Bakersfield, CA.
The Cost Control Technician is responsible for gathering, reviewing, analyzing and assisting in reporting on project costs and scope information for the Projects. In this role, there will be heavy emphasis on detailed data collection, validation, compilation and reporting through Excel, requiring a keen eye for accuracy and formatting consistency. Other administrative tasks include handling communication with the project team, logging Contractors timesheets, coordinating and attending meetings, and capturing meeting minutes.
The Cost Control Technician must have strong computer, analytical, organizational, written, and oral communication skills with a can-do attitude. The right candidate must also have the capacity to multitask and work with a diverse work group of vendors, executive managers, subcontractors, consultants and other professionals.
The Cost Control Technician is also responsible to:
- Investigate and follow-up on contractor invoices, which includes proper coding, review of costs, matching to purchase requisitions, contracts, POs, etc.
- Help review monthly financial reports to submitted invoices, query unexpected charges and obtain copies of supporting documentation, follow-up on outstanding change orders, corrections, investigate missing charges, and track status of POs.
- Track Contractors' Daily Time Log, Overtime Requests, and Per Diem.
- Assist with monitoring and updating various reports to assist with cost and schedule management.
- Track and log all preliminary notices and lien releases as they are submitted by Contractors and Sub-Contractors.
- Assist Project Team with creating new project folders and assist with project closeouts.
- Coordinating, preparing for meetings, and preparing meeting minutes as needed
- Updating project logs with the progress of finished assignments
- Accessing databases and gathering data, organizing and managing files
- Help the Project Controls Manager ensure company policy, procedures, and standards are met
- Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents and subcontracts for each project
Required experience:
- High school diploma and 2-4 years of related project accounting work experience.
- Hard working team player with exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Possess excellent speaking and writing ability
- A proactive learner with ability to quickly adapt to changes
- Have excellent interpersonal skills for collaborating effectively with other
- Knowledge of financial processes (e.g. invoicing and budgeting)
- Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Knowledge of Primavera is an advantage
- Knowledge of MS SharePoint is an advantage
Must be able to pass all CA safety, drug & alcohol requirements for refinery work
$35-$60/hr 6 + months project
