Electrical & Instrumentation Designer

Client: Industrial Gases 
Location: Geismar, La 
Duration: 1 year and could go longer

Software: Microstation CAD.  A strong drafting background using AutoCAD will be considered.  Raster document overlay editing applications for CAD software a plus

The E&I Designer is a contract position hired to work under Client's technical direction, policies, and procedures.
 
Role Description:
Position provides support to engineering or Client's design team by providing layout, detailed drawings, sketches, diagrams, etc.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical assistance for construction commissioning/startup
  • Produce basic design engineering, IFA, and IFC packages
  • Provide quality checks of IFA packages
  • Conduct cross-checks between design disciplines
  • Create instrument plans, loop diagrams, and installation details utilizing piping drawings, civil drawings, and P&ID's
  • Verify instrument design work is performed in accordance with technical standards, methods, procedures, and practices
  • Provide project Electrical Design (FEL and detail) for small to medium sized turnaround, maintenance, and capital projects
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, construction personnel, and vendors to provide technical assistance, support, and guidance in solving problems and implementing improvements at the site as well as linked sites
  • Draw check-in and check-out to outside engineering firms
  • Provide technical assistance for commissioning/startup
  • Verify electrical design work is performed in accordance with national, state, and local regulations, technical standards, methods, procedures, and practices and industry regulations

Qualifications & Skills for Success:
  • Minimum of 5 years of applicable experience in installation of distributed controls systems, programmable logic controllers, industrial measurement, and control instrumentation and associated wiring (preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working design in the petrochemical industry (preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of electronics, motor control, and relay logic
