Engineering Manager- Renewable Fuels Refinery 
Our client is a Southern California-based renewable energy company with the principle that renewable fuels should come from non-food based sources that are environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable. 
They are looking for a Manager of Engineering to lead the team of engineers, inspectors, laboratory technicians, and technical document control staff and contractors, to support safe and commercial production at their renewable fuels biorefinery, located in Bakersfield, CA.
 
The Engineering Manager will also be responsible to 
  • Manage team of engineers, inspectors, laboratory technicians, and technical document control staff and contractors. Ensures that employees have the right resources, tools, and support to achieve their job supporting the safe and commercial production of the biorefinery
  • Accountable for the EPC engineering quality assurance such that deliverables will meet the project contract requirements for licensor performance standards as well as predefined minimum acceptance criteria
  • Accountable for technical input and specifications for commercial negotiations of product offtake partners and feedstock providers, including performance guarantee evaluations
  • Engage weekly with investors' engineering team on progress and technical risks which in turn is used for lenders' updates on project cost and schedule
  • Accountable for technical support to assure regulatory compliance efforts are met, including OSHA/PSM safety incidents and incident investigations, California/EPA air and water environmental permit modifications, and permit reporting data quality issues
  • Accountable for the team working with plant operating personnel to troubleshoot operational issues in real-time.  Drive reliability, availability, and maintenance standards in line with company goals for operational safety.
  • Responsible for specifying engineering software requirements, evaluate market available options, and engage with IT through implementation to assure it meets biorefinery's long-term technical needs
  • Identify and drive to completion internal work processes, procedures and software systems that staff need to be trained and using for the commissioning, startup, and operation of the biorefinery to meet regulatory, environmental, commercial, and contractual requirements
  • Oversees technical relationships with major customers, clients, licensors, and vendors associated with the biorefinery
  • Accountable for Technical Services budget development, PO and invoice approvals, and overall tracking spending against approved budget
  • Manages team of 30+ staff and contractors
  • Oversees the daily work priorities of the department
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy
  • Other duties as assigned 
 
Required Experience 
  • Minimum of bachelors degree in engineering, preferred chemical or mechanical engineering degree
  • 10-15 years of experience in energy engineering roles (projects and operations), with 5+ years in leadership roles.  5+ years supporting energy operations preferred and renewables a plus

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Base Salary in the range of $170K-200K +
