Mechanical Engineer 5 – HVAC & Plumbing Engineer

Location: Multiple locations throughout the U.S. (Must reside within 50 miles of an office and be willing to go in at least 3 days a week)

Employment Type: Contract with potential for full-time conversion

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced HVAC and Plumbing Engineer to work on a diverse range of building configurations across multiple industries, including power generation, substations, oil and gas structures, water treatment, and energy storage facilities. This role involves all aspects of design engineering, analysis, and studies for both new and existing structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and oversee HVAC and plumbing systems for various facility types.
  • Work with traditional Design-Bid-Build and alternative Conceptual-Bid-Build project delivery methods.
  • Develop solutions for areas such as power generation halls, administrative buildings, warehouses, laboratories, chemical storage, electrical distribution centers, pump areas, and wastewater treatment buildings.
  • Conduct energy audits, system performance reviews, and energy compliance calculations.
  • Ensure facility designs meet applicable code compliance and sustainability standards (LEED certification preferred).
  • Review technical submittals, bid packages, and ensure engineering design principles align with project requirements.
  • Utilize Revit 3D modeling, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Office Suite for project documentation and coordination.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of experience in HVAC and plumbing engineering.
  • Licensing: Must hold or be actively pursuing a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Certifications: LEED AP certification preferred, with experience in obtaining LEED certification for industrial buildings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of ICC, ASHRAE, ASPE, SMACNA, and NFPA standards.
  • Extensive experience with large-scale water-cooled chillers.
  • Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and maintain a quality-focused approach.
