PTS Advance is looking for experienced Lab Chemist. This is a long-term contract position located at a Bay area refinery in Rodeo, California. Local candidates only. No per diem or relocation. 
 
Under the general direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Chemist -Contractor is a technical professional responsible for conducting laboratory analysis methods in accordance with established standards and practices. Chemists are also responsible for assuring instruments/equipment are properly maintained.
 
Responsibilities may include:
* Routine testing and certification of hydrocarbons including Diesel and Gasoline.
* Conduct water analysis as required for refinery operations and regulatory requirements
* Troubleshooting and repairing lab instrumentation such as gas chromatographs (GC's)
* Documenting results and reporting them using Laboratory Information Management system (LIMS)
* Preparing and running calibration standards and quality control samples to help ensure laboratory analyses are within statistical control
* Reviewing lab analytical procedures to ensure compliance with ASTM, UOP, EPA, and/or other industry standards.
* Training other lab personnel as required on lab analytical methods and other procedures
* Helping maintain lab supplies at acceptable levels
* Performing and/or coordinating with outside labs routine and specialized testing as required
* Additional projects, as assigned
 
Required:
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Associate degree in physical sciences or higher
  • Experience working in R&D/QA/QC testing facility
  • Computer proficiency with typical Laboratory software (e.g., LIMS, GC software, statistical packages etc.)
  • Must possess/maintain valid driver's license & TWIC card.
  • Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft applications - Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Willing to be carry a callout phone and work overtime as an after-hours standby (4:00 PM to 7:00 AM) for 1 week each month.
  • Willing to work either Saturday- Wednesday schedule, Tuesday - Saturday Schedule or Sunday - Thursday schedule as per lab requirements.
 
Preferred:
  • 1 or more years of R&D/QA/QC/Production laboratory experience in petroleum refinery or an equivalent 3rd party laboratory
  • Advanced degree in Chemistry or physical science with emphasis on analytical/instrumentation methods
  • Knowledge of applicable ASTM, EPA, UOP, ISO, Federal, State, Local regulatory requirements, and methods
  • Ability to apply the basic statistical tools used in a refinery production laboratory to help ensure analytical results are in control
  • Demonstrated development and implementation of original analysis methods
  • Strong working knowledge of safe Laboratory practices
  • Ability to effectively interact with all organizational levels and value diversity
  • Strong communications skills (written and verbal)
  • Safety Certification and Training Requirements
