Title: Process Engineer
 Location: Donaldsonville, LA

Job Summary:

The Process Engineer provides technical support to help maintain and enhance the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally responsible operation of nitrogen fertilizer production units while maximizing production capacity. This position works closely with other engineering disciplines as well as Operations, Maintenance, and EHS teams to ensure solutions align with overall business objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and report on operating performance of assigned process units, including efficiency, capacity, product yields, catalyst life, emissions, and process safety. Collect field data as required to ensure accuracy of results.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and develop recommendations to resolve issues in process equipment such as compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, absorbers, strippers, boilers, combustion systems, and reactors.
  • Provide process optimization, troubleshooting, data analysis, and technical support to Operations.
  • Support project execution by providing detailed engineering input and monitoring jobs through the Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Evaluate and participate in developing potential capital improvement projects to increase production capacity, improve energy efficiency, and enhance safety and environmental performance.
  • Prepare and review engineering documents, including PFDs, P&IDs, scopes of work, and equipment specifications, to support capital project authorization and execution. Provide detailed written justifications for management approval.
  • Review and develop new operating procedures and conduct training for Operations personnel related to significant process changes.
  • Participate in PHAs, LOPA studies, and incident investigations, ensuring compliance with EHS standards.
  • Identify and implement corrective actions related to EHS findings in accordance with schedule requirements.
  • Provide support during plant turnarounds, including process engineering recommendations, planning specialty work, assisting with inspections, monitoring equipment repairs, coordinating catalyst replacements, and supporting plant restarts.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve site safety and reliability.
  • Maintain effective working relationships across all departments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in oil, gas, or chemical manufacturing preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with capital project development and/or execution preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and organizational levels.
  • Ability and willingness to collect field data, perform inspections, and work within an operating plant environment.
  • Flexibility to support 24/7 operations during startups, shutdowns, upsets, and catalyst reductions.
