Piping Designer/Drafter

Looking for a great Piping Designer/Drafter role? PTS Advance has a client looking for a Piping Designer/Drafter to join their team! Our client produces products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, specialty lubricant products, and specialty modified asphalt. They own and operate refineries across the US and markets its refined products in the Southwest U.S., the Rocky Mountains extending into the Pacific Northwest, and in other neighboring Plains states. They are seeking a Piping Designer/Drafter to support their team in West Bountiful, UT.

BASIC FUNCTION:
 Conducts design assignments for Capital Projects under minimal supervision.
 Acts as the liaison between Project Managers, engineers, contractors, and various other refinery departments as needed.
 May direct or lead the work of others from time-to-time.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)
 Conducts piping design assignments for Capital Projects, this will include but is not limited to:
o Create pipe isometric and orthographic drawings
o Create/update plot plan and other plant related drawings including 3d modeling
o Understanding of pipe and valve specifications
o Clear understanding of PFD's and P&ID symbols, creation, and modifications
o Obtains project information and ensures drawings are accurate and complete
o Performs field measurements and routing of new and existing pipe systems
o Has experience working with point clouds in AutoCAD
o Can navigate Navisworks models
 Works under the direction of I&E Project Engineering for the drafting of Instrumentation and Electrical Systems
o Creates/updates Instrument Loop Diagrams, Electrical one-lines, Motor Schematics, etc.
 Works with Project Engineering for the design of Civil and Structural design drawings
o Performs field measurement of new and existing Civil foundations and Structural Steel
o Creates preliminary foundation and structural design drawings
 Ability to effectively communicate with others, both verbally and in writing.
 Performs various office based tasks:
o Maintains reference data, drawings and drawing systems
o Assemble and organize project data books, RFQ's, FEL docs, Foreign Prints, contractor data, MOC's, etc.
o Researches and gathers existing drawings related to specific projects
o Coordinates with project managers to ensure the closure of project documentation
 Recommends design changes to managers and/or engineers
 Oversees outside contractor drawing compliance
 Ensures compliance with Engineering Standards are met for Piping and Mechanical installations
 Performs special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion


REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills. 
  • Advanced knowledge of pipeline systems and ability to apply this knowledge.
  • Current knowledge of industry standards, governmental requirements and special training related to Drafting & Design.
  • Working knowledge of PLC and HMI (human machine interface) programming. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, basic reading and writing skills, ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. 

PREFERRED SKILLS:
Training related to design software with an emphasis on AutoCAD, CADWORX, and NAVISWORKS preferred.

WORK CONDITIONS:
Office and field based. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors environment, and driver based environments including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, and working in confined spaces. Subject to all environmental temperatures and weather conditions.

EXPERIENCE:
3-8 years of job related experience is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making précis hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 25lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 25lbs, climbing a ladder and/or stairs up to 200ft, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rate is essential, valid state driver's license and proof of insurance required, perceiving color differences, ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted), and strenuous physical activity.
