Our client is a major refinery in the Los Angeles area serving the fuel transportation and aviation fuel needs of the western United States. Operates an integrated network of strategic assets that creates and sells refined petroleum products, from feedstock acquisition to wholesale, commercial and retail sales outlets.


They are in need of a Process Control Engineer for a long term estimated (12 months+) contract assignment, 

  • Provides primary support to existing Honeywell DCS, PLC and Triconex systems, including troubleshooting, event analysis, and code repairs. 
  • Performs routine hardware and software maintenance of Honeywell DCS systems and PLC.
  • Develops detailed engineering documents, procures equipment and materials, coordinates construction contracting, and provides technical support to construction and startup personnel.
  • Develops and reviews control logic on DCS.
  • Supports PHA's both as a team member and as an engineer assigned to close gaps.
  • Completes MOC's for changes made to DCS and PLC systems
  • Coordinates and designs or assists in design of control related projects.  Projects involve specification, purchase and maintenance of various systems, computers, networking and/or peripheral equipment, design of controls or approval of contractor's design, coordination with instrumentation engineers on instrument hardware and configuration required for control and commissioning of refinery controls, and coordination with operators on control design and implementation
  • Actively participates in the development, design, FAT, SAT and commissioning of new PLC, Triconex, DCS and CIS systems or modifications to existing systems.
  • Designs and maintains operator interface to computer supervisory controls
  • Interfaces with technical and non-technical personnel in proposing and implementing control system projects and upgrades
  • Provides startup assistance and control modifications for new projects
  • Monitors unit control performance regularly to ensure best performance and address issues appropriately  
  • Writes reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Knowledge of analyzing and troubleshooting supervisory controls in a petroleum refinery or petrochemical plant
  • Ability to read and interpret company policies, regulatory guidelines, and other work-related documentation
  • Ability to abide by confidentiality requirements when working with sensitive information, results, and communications.
  • Skill in providing thorough, efficient, and effective customer service to individuals at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to accomplish work within required timelines, including short, long, and emergency timeframes
  • Ability to cross-train in other department duties to ensure efficient coverage department responsibilities
  • Ability to work with others to accomplish challenging assignments
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple assignments to ensure completion of tasks within stated time requirements
     
     Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (preferred):
  • Knowledge of Honeywell Experion and TPN DCS, TDC3000
  • Knowledge of AB PLC, Control Logix, Triconex(optional)
  • Basic computer networking and programming (VBA, Python, etc.) skills
  • Experience with communication protocols (Modbus/Profibus) 
  • Basic understanding of multivariable predictive control and online optimizationind
