Responsibilities AND Accountabilities
- Demonstrate safety and environmental leadership: strive to improve the safety and environmental performance of the unit; participate in Site SHE initiatives and programs including Process Safety Management through PHAs, MOCs, incident investigations and operator training.
- Demonstrate a cross-functional technical understanding of the polyolefin business.
- Provide process and project engineering expertise.
- Able to size and specify process equipment, instruments and piping components
- Employ strong organizational skills in completing process deliverables and documentation
- Acquire, assess and award vendor bids for projects and unit needs effectively
- Possess strong basic chemical engineering knowledge in areas such as catalysis, reaction kinetics, adsorption, absorption, filtration, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and process controls.
- Demonstrate ability to interpret engineering standards and incorporate to improve unit operations.
- Act as the technical leader for small to mid-size projects.
- Provide leadership role in developing and improving site operations and reliability.
- Identify areas for improvements and champion ways to create value and reduce costs.
- Help troubleshoot process issues and support plant needs.
- Lead the design of small capital projects. Ensure their delivery and implementation.
- Ensure acquisition and sharing of best practices within USA.
- Interact with site Maintenance and Operations teams to support efforts to drive higher equipment utilization.
- Interface with the O&P Technical Service and Development team to bring new products formulations to production.
- Create connectivity (internal and external) to leverage internal knowledge for problems.
- Record production data for resource management and benchmarking of production/reliability performance.
- Track key process and quality measures for unit operations and recommend corrective actions.
- The ability to work with a cross functional group to successfully resolve operational challenges, develop and implement new technology and/or products into the polyolefin processes using data oriented problem solving tools.
Skills & Knowledge Required
Education/Experience/Skills/Competencies
- BS Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field required
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in petro-chemical, refining or manufacturing; 5+ years preferred

Since the nature of technical support includes troubleshooting unexpected problems or upsets, the person for this job must be able to work long hours that can extend into nights and/or weekends if the need arises. In addition, some shift work will be expected on an occasional basis for items such as training, troubleshooting, or project commissioning.
Physical Requirements
The process engineer must be able to work in a variety of environments that include both fieldwork and deskwork. Minimum requirements include:
- Maintaining constant awareness of personal safety and the safety of all other personnel. This includes knowledge of unit operation, procedures, and rules.
- Being able to work in a safety sensitive environment that includes large rotating equipment and hazardous chemicals.
- The manufacturing facility is located inside a 3rd Party Refinery in the Los Angeles Basin. As such, the process engineer must be able to withstand both high temperatures while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.
