Position Title: Project Process Engineer (Contract)
Location: Denver CO area
 
Job Summary:
The Capital Project's Process Engineer provides engineering support to the Capital Projects Group by applying best practices and engineering standards to the early stage of project development. They provide technical support for all project phases for effective project development and performance.  Must be able to develop process design packages that lead to more profitable and reliable operation of refinery process units.  Must be able to evaluate the feasibility and profitability of process designs and justify refinery capital projects.
 
Job Description:
  • Perform Process Engineering design and studies throughout all stages of the project lifecycle.  
  • Develop front end designs in accordance with all Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S), Process Safety Management (PSM) and other regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet quality, engineering specification/standards, Industry standards and cost and schedule requirements of a project
  • Specify and size piping and equipment and develop datasheets (including instrumentation)
  • Develop/redline process PFD and P&IDs
  • Evaluate pressure relief valves and sizing scenarios
  • Evaluate equipment bid summaries, purchase requisitions, inspection test plans to confirm equipment meets the design intent
  • Review engineering FEED and IFC deliverables for technical accuracy and compliance with client and industry standards
  • Develop and sustain internal and external customer relationships to ensure appropriate stakeholders are aligned with process designs.  Continue to work with operations and support the project through construction and commissioning/start-up
  • Participate in and offer advice during process hazard analysis (PHA) or layers of protection analysis (LOPA) for small capital projects
  • Develops input for early stages of the project estimates
  • Promotes continuous improvement throughout the project's life cycle; including lessons learned
  • Demonstrate a safety mindset both on and off the job
     
    Minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
  • A deep understanding of refinery operations and project economics
  • Twelve or more years process engineering experience; refining experience preferred
  • Three or more years of operations experience
  • At least two years of project experience
     
    Preference for:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate effectively across all levels of an organization
  • Effective leadership skills to build/contribute to strong, highly productive teams
  • A self-starter who can work independently with minimal guidance
  • The ability to assess new technologies for applicability to process unit improvements
  • The ability to anticipate potential problems in the design and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions
  • Familiarity with process safety management
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software applications (PI Process Book,  Knowledge Management System (KMS) , Siemen's Relief Valve Program (PSPPM), SAP)
  • Ability to build and use Aspentech's HYSYS (EDR) process models
  • Ability to integrate and balance big-picture concerns with day-to-day activities
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and use a collaboration approach to maintain positive relationships and work towards solutions under difficult circumstances
