Project Cost Engineer
Our client is located in the Los Angeles area helping land and shipping business growth to improve supply chain productivity, stability and flexibility.
The Role
The objective of this position is to drive, maintain, and support project cost control based on the approved scope. The Project Cost Engineer will work on his/her own initiative with technical subject matter experts, contractors, and the Project Controls Manager to establish and maintain an integrated cost estimate/report. The cost engineer provides transparent insight in the project's cost status, supporting effective decision-making.
The role will provide the single point of contact for cost/budget information and will extend to provide wider support to the Project Controls Manager to ensure successful delivery of the project.
Responsibilities:
- Developing the detailed estimate for the complete scope of works associated with the project and maintain this in a cost report.
- Challenge and align project budgets, cash flow projections, VOWD, and any project-specific reports, tools, or spreadsheets.
- Ensure the basis of Estimate at Completion is predicted using industry recognized approaches to ensure accurate, reliable, and consistent forecasting.
- Challenge and align project estimates, working to support the project to reduce areas of uncertainty to help to produce the most representative estimate within the given timeframe and based on the level of solution definition.
- Engage with the supply chain where relevant to obtain budgetary estimates.
- Development of reporting materials for internal and external stakeholders as required by the Project Controls Manager.
- Providing general project controls support to the Project Controls Manager as required.
- Closing out cost management aspects on completion of contracts.
Qualifications:
- Degree qualified in a technical or project management-based discipline is desired.
- Project management qualification / certification is preferable (ie PMP - project management professional, CCP - certified cost professional, CCE/A - certified cost estimator/Analyst)
Experience:
- The candidate has 5 years of cost estimating experience, preferably in the port and container terminal construction industry.
- A working knowledge of other project controls disciplines (scheduling, risk management, cost engineering, document management and change management) is essential.
- English language fluency.
- Strong Microsoft excel skills
- Preferably contractor management experience.
