Job Title: Project Manager / Assistant Project Manager - Utility Projects
Location: Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey
Employment Type: Contract (12-month contract-to-hire)
Overview:
We are seeking Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers to support a long-term program involving transmission line, substation, and communications construction projects. This ongoing program has been active for 10 years and is anticipated to continue for another 5+ years. You'll have the opportunity to work on complex and challenging projects, regardless of your level of experience.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage 10-20 projects simultaneously from inception to completion.
  • Oversee project cost management and ensure project completion within specified timelines.
  • Collaborate with engineering and client stakeholders to develop project work plans.
  • Coordinate major and minor material equipment procurement with the engineering team.
  • Facilitate environmental permitting and coordinate permitting review and submittal.
  • Develop and evaluate construction RFP packages, scopes of work, schedules, and permitting packages.
  • Conduct Pre-Construction and progress meetings, and regularly report on project status.
  • Ensure site safety, environmental compliance, and quality control during construction.
  • Maintain project budgets, financial forecasts, and monthly accrual tracking.
  • Report progress and metrics to the Lead Project Manager and clients regularly.
Project Types:
  • Substation Projects: Full rebuilds, terminal upgrades, equipment replacements (Voltages: 34.5kV-500kV)
  • Transmission Line Projects: Line rebuilds, switch replacements, customer connections (Voltages: 46kV-138kV)
  • Communications Projects: RTU replacements, microwave towers, fiber builds
  • Distribution Projects: Circuit rebuilds, pole replacements, customer connections
  • Project Scale: Budgets range from $250K to $50M; primarily brownfield projects (90%)
Role Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing high voltage transmission line or substation construction projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of substations, telecommunications networks, or transmission lines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
  • PMP certification is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to travel within a 1-3 hour radius from the reporting location; valid driver's license required.
