Safety Coordinator – Turnaround (Baytown, TX)

Position Summary
The Safety Coordinator will support a major turnaround project in Baytown, TX. This role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with corporate, federal, provincial, and local safety regulations while promoting a proactive safety culture across all contractor and site personnel. The Safety Coordinator will lead daily safety initiatives, audits, training verification, and incident investigations to maintain a safe work environment during high-activity turnaround operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead daily safety meetings and turnover meetings
- Verify all turnaround safety processes are fully implemented
- Ensure federal, provincial, and local laws, regulations, and codes are observed
- Conduct site safety walks, audits, and housekeeping inspections
- Identify hazardous conditions and unsafe practices during on-site inspections
- Participate in safety observation programs and track documentation
- Investigate incidents and near-misses; follow up on corrective actions
- Compile and analyze incident data to develop risk mitigation strategies
- Verify training documentation (e.g., forklift certifications)
- Assist with contractor safety orientation and onboarding programs
- Provide safety coaching, guidance, and compliance counseling
- Promote high housekeeping and safe work standards across site

Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in a Safety Coordinator role within refinery or petrochemical environments
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related discipline preferred
- CSP certification preferred
- Subject matter expertise in OSHA, MSHA, NFPA, NEC, CGA, and Alberta OHS regulations
- Strong knowledge of corporate safety policies and turnaround safety procedures
- Experience in site auditing, assessments, and coaching
- Training and experience in incident investigation
- Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong communication and influence skills with a motivated, positive safety attitude
Site & Work Requirements
- Must meet all site entry requirements
- Valid TWIC card with TWIC password required
- Must complete required safety training prior to site access
Schedule & Work Conditions
- 7 days/week, 12-hour shifts (Days & Nights available)
- Maximum shift length: 13 hours (including turnover)
- One fatigue day for every 14 days worked
- Local candidates only (no per diem offered)
