Our client is a leading global energy company specializing in sustainable wood bioenergy. We are the world's largest producer of sustainable wood pellets, which provide a low-carbon alternative to fossil fuels.

The Senor Contracts Administrator will support the Construction and Large and Small Capital Project teams and will be responsible for preparing, analyzing, negotiating, and revising contracts that involve the purchase or sale of goods including equipment, materials, supplies, or products and various services from engineering, procurement, construction and/or construction management.

This position reports to the Manager, Contracts Administration and will support the relevant project managers with contract and commercial activity, including the mitigation of risks.

Location: The position will be based out of either of our client's corporate offices located in Raleigh, NC., or Bethesda, MD.  However,  frequent travel to various project sites will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Management of Contractor and Supplier contracts and Change Orders and claims
  • Working closely with the Procurement Department and the Legal Department on all significant Claims and Disputes
  • Drafting and issuance of timely notices (and responses) to Contractors and Suppliers.
  • Ensure proper documentation (e.g. minutes of meeting) is created and maintained for key Site meetings with Contractors and Suppliers
  • Work with project manager(s) to timely document any agreements reached
  • Track subcontractor payments and deadlines
  • Analyze/propose mitigations to identified risks. Maintain a Project Risk Log and mitigating actions
  • In conjunction with procurement, oversee the preparation and revision of Contracts
  • Support the Procurement Depart in the negotiation of  terms and conditions
  • Track, implement, and recover Liquidated Damages from Contractors and Suppliers
  • Initiate and control back-charges to/from Contractors and Suppliers
  • Manage project insurance claims including documentation of impacts and submission of necessary forms to recover on policies
  • Liaise with Scheduler/Planner to ensure planning schedules for Contracts are produced and maintained
  • Support and guide the project team on Contract issues that arise during project execution
  • Prepare Subcontractor briefs (and revisions) summarizing contractual requirements and budgets.
  • Maintain an audit file for each Contract which will include original Contract, all correspondence, Changes/deviations, Amendments, clarifications, payment schedules.
  • Lead Contractor meetings where appropriate.
  • Work with relevant function(s) to ensure that Contractors are in compliance with legal requirements, owner specifications and government regulations.
  • Perform Contract closing activities as soon as Contractor work is completed.

Qualifications 

  • 10+ Years' Experience in Contract/Claim Management for Construction Projects.
  • Bachelors Degree in law, quantity surveying, construction administration, project management, engineering, architecture, or related field.
  • Experience managing Contracts across multiple locations.
  • Knowledge of the documents and processes in large projects
  • Knowledge of construction disciplines, construction execution, means & methods and construction equipment.
  • Strong understanding of planning/scheduling and critical path methodology.
  • Thorough knowledge of how to manage Contractor Claims and prepare defense/counterclaims.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across the organization and operate effectively within a project organization by resolving conflicts and influencing others.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal issues and safety standards relating to construction projects.
  • Self-reliant and good communication skills are essential.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook.

Travel requirements

  • 20-30% - Willingness to travel based on needs of assigned project(s). 
  • Travel to corporate office in Bethesda, MD or other venues occasionally required.
