Senior Piping Material Specification Engineer

Duties:                 
  • Perform piping specification engineering work on projects and provide project support to the overall piping lead engineer as well as engineering manager by performing piping engineering activities related to planning, execution, coordination and design.
  • Resolve inter-discipline, vendor, and client issues. Participate in internal, client, and third party technical audit on engineering deliverables and vendor documents as needed.
  • Interface with Process Systems Group, piping designers, Pipe Stress Engineers and other engineering disciplines on issues concerning pipe specifications, valves, process design, and piping systems flexibility.
  • Coordinate with planning, procurement, fabrication and certifying agencies to ensure clearly defined interfaces and deliverables by maintaining the communication within the group and with other disciplines.
  • Maintain piping specifications to current codes and standards including ASME B31, ASTM, API, MSS, AWWA, and NACE.
  • Review and participate in the piping and valve material selection process. Perform piping engineer design work as required, including:  Code calculations such as MAWP, pipe wall thickness, branch reinforcement, bend and miter fittings pressure capacity, hydrostatic test pressure, etc.
  • Generate piping material, piping components, mechanical valves, piping specialty items specifications and data sheets for projects.
  • Prepare piping material take-off from PID's
  • Review requisitions for piping components, valves and piping specialty items
  • Prepare specifications for fabrication and installation, and testing of piping systems.
  • Provide technical evaluations of bids for piping materials, valves and piping specialty items; Vendor data check and approval.
  • Provide technical support to the field during construction; Visit vendor's facilities for factory acceptance tests.
            
Requirements: 
  • Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Ten plus (10+) years progressive experience in Piping engineering on major engineering design projects for onshore petrochemical plants, refineries, utilizing international codes and standards such as ASME B31 piping codes, ASTM, API, MSS, AWWA, and NACE. Experience in offshore production facilities considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of valves used in the onshore (and offshore) facilities and codes and standards associated with valve design & manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of piping design and piping systems flexibility.
  • Ability to read, review and comment on MSD, PFD, P&IDs, GADs, Isometrics, etc.
