System Specialist/Software Developer II

Pay Range: $70.00/hr-81.00/hr

  • Must be willing to pay for own parking ~$75 month for rooftop parking

Location: NW Houston, Near Jersey Village 

Duration: 6-month contract (May extend beyond) 

Schedule: Able to work on a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, or holidays) to support a 24x7 Network Operations Center required. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Deliver technical designs, estimates of development time, and plan individual deliverable work.
  • Develop functionality with a focus on quality and assuring proper unit and integration test coverage.
  • Collaborate with QA team to support test plans and execution.
  • Prepare and present status updates for current work tasks, share any blocking items, and provide expected completion dates of work items.
  • Assist architects and leads with technical specifications and develop solutions in support of business requirements.
  • Work directly with team members and business analysts to understand new/changing business requirements and functional enhancements as requested. This includes delivering high-value technical solutions in support of changing business requirements and initiatives.
  • Assist with performing systems analysis for projects of major scope and various complexities to provide a means for solving technical and business-related problems/challenges.
  • Support existing business application(s) by troubleshooting issues, analyzing possible cause, defining solutions, and working through defined change control processes to enable quick resolution.
  • Acquire and maintain system and business knowledge needed to support both end users and other internal or external technical teams.

Requirements: 

  • Proficient knowledge of various technologies including .NET, Entity Framework, JavaScript, Git, RabbitMQ, SQL Server, Angular, Elasticsearch, and PowerBI/SSRS.
  • Experience with Network management tools including: Cisco Prime, Cisco WAAS, Cisco DNA, Cisco IWAN, Citect, SolarWinds, LiveAction, NetScout, Cisco APIC is preferred.
  • Proven experience in communicating with team members and product managers to collect requirements and describe software product features.
  • Familiarity with Agile development practices, Scrum, Kanban, and backlog management systems.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication
  • Bachelor of Science degree from a 4-year accredited university, or 5 years of related industry experience or equivalent technical experience.
  • Computer Science, Computer Information Systems (CIS), or Management Information Systems (MIS) degree is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in Information Technology specific to application development and support
  • 5+ years of experience developing and supporting SQL-based applications is required.
  • Hands-on experience of commercial energy transportation systems (contracts, tariffs, scheduling, ticketing, balancing, invoicing, reporting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable) is preferred.
  • Experienced in database design, performance evaluation and tuning, development of stored procedures, and referential integrity.
  • Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to pick up on technical concepts quickly and can learn new skills and knowledge.
  • Enjoys working hard in a fast-paced, action-oriented environment.
  • CCNA is required.  
  • Experience in data circuit issues (DS-3, T-1, MPLS, VSAT, LTE, Microwave) is preferred. 
  • Experience in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, access points, and Nexus devices. 
  • Strong customer service skills required. 
  • Knowledge of scripting and programming skills such as Python, JS, PowerShell, or C# is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Must possess strong analytical abilities to troubleshoot server and network hardware/software issues at all layers of the OSI model.
  • Ability to work well individually or in a group and share information. 
  • Ability to analyze packet captures from NetScout or Wireshark. 
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Must Have : CCNA

Preferred:

  • 2+ years JavaScript experience
