Industrial Technician / Mechanic

Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Industrial Technician/Mechanic for our Knoxville manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for evaluating, troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing mechanical systems and equipment critical to paper mill operations. Ideal candidates will have strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on experience in industrial settings, and the ability to contribute to a high-performance maintenance team.
We are seeking a skilled Industrial Technician/Mechanic for our Knoxville manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for evaluating, troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing mechanical systems and equipment critical to paper mill operations. Ideal candidates will have strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on experience in industrial settings, and the ability to contribute to a high-performance maintenance team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical component failures in production and facility systems.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on paper mill equipment; previous experience in a paper mill environment is a plus.
- Cut, weld, and fabricate using various materials including stainless steel, cast iron, steel, and aluminum.
- Disassemble, troubleshoot, repair, and reassemble industrial machinery such as pumps, gearboxes, and material handling equipment.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
- Enter and update maintenance records, work orders, and parts inventory using computer systems.
- Lead and collaborate on maintenance projects with peers.
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to position and move machinery.
- Track time and labor on maintenance tasks through daily time sheets.
- Assist in job planning and direct other team members as needed.
- Perform inspections, calibrations, and environmental checks as required.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1+ year of relevant mechanical experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- 2+ years of technical or mechanical training preferred.
- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools, precision measurement instruments, welding equipment, and shop machinery such as lathes, mills, and presses.
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, valves, bearings, belts, chains, sprockets, and motor/coupling alignment.
- Capable of interpreting hydraulic schematics and performing layout and fabrication tasks.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to complete work orders and documentation electronically.
- Ability to operate hoisting and lifting devices, and to safely set up heavy equipment.
- Physically able to lift, climb, walk, stoop, push, pull, and work in hot, humid, cold, or noisy environments.
- Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated leadership ability is a plus.
