Instrument Technician


Location: Geismar, La/ Baton Rouge area supporting all plants in Plaquemine and Geismar Louisiana area.

The Geismar/Baton Rouge area consist of two Steam Methane Reformers (SMR), Syngas Separation Unit (SSU), pipeline compressor station, and 3 Hydrogen off gas facilities. Sites are located in Geismar, Baton Rouge, and Plaquemine. These sites provide Hydrogen and Carbon Monoxide via pipeline to refineries and chemical plants across Louisiana and Texas. The maintenance team does support the area. A background in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation/electrical equipment is essential for this position.


The basic function of this role is to maintain, repair and improve instrumentation and electrical equipment located in the greater Baton Rouge area. The primary focus is to provide necessary technical and hands-on support to continuously improve plant instrumentation, electrical, and DCS equipment integrity, cost, and on-stream reliability. Responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and calibration of electronic and digital process control equipment, related loop equipment, electric motors and control circuitry. 


Qualifications / Requirements:

-Trade/Technical degree or apprenticeship in a related field preferred

- Minimum of 5 years strong industrial (Chemical/Petrochemical) maintenance experience and/or equivalent military experience..

- Read blueprints, P&ID's, single-lines, ladder logic, and wiring schematics. 

- Repair and troubleshoot analog and discrete instrument loops. - Effectively use typical test and calibration equipment, including pneumatic calibrators, RTD calibrators, mA calibrators, T/C calibrators, digital and analog multi-meters, meggers, and laptops for equipment communication. 

- Follow step-by-step calibration procedures. 

- Use computerized systems to enter and retrieve data.

- Troubleshoot and repair 480 VAC 3 phase motor controls as well as 120 VAC control circuits. 

- Troubleshoot PLC problems through knowledge of PLC logic and operations. 

Work with and troubleshoot the following: Pressure, temperature, level and flow measuring equipment Pneumatic Controls  

Chart recorders Water analytical equipment, including pH/ORP, Conductivity Solenoids Limit & Proximity Switches
