Mechanical Project Engineer

Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer with strong project management experience to support heavy mechanical projects within an industrial or petrochemical environment. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in static equipment—including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, piping systems, and related infrastructure—and will be responsible for the design, execution, and coordination of projects from concept through completion.
This role requires a hands-on engineer who can balance technical expertise with project leadership, ensuring mechanical deliverables are executed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering design, specification, and procurement of static and mechanical equipment such as pressure vessels, columns, exchangers, tanks, and piping systems.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, and resource plans for assigned capital and turnaround projects.
- Serve as the technical liaison between engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction teams throughout project lifecycle.
- Review vendor drawings, mechanical datasheets, and fabrication documentation for compliance with project and code requirements (API, ASME, TEMA, etc.).
- Manage EPC and vendor interfaces, ensuring technical alignment and timely delivery of equipment and documentation.
- Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Coordinate project risk assessments, MOCs, and constructability reviews.
- Support troubleshooting, reliability improvements, and field modifications for existing static assets.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
- 5+ years of experience in industrial, refinery, or petrochemical environments.
- Proven experience leading projects or acting as a mechanical project engineer / project manager for heavy mechanical or static equipment installations.
- Working knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards: ASME Section VIII, API 510/650/661, TEMA, and applicable OSHA requirements.
- Strong understanding of fabrication, inspection, and testing methods for static mechanical equipment.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in MS Project, Excel, and CAD tools preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive projects from design through construction.
