Our client, an Automation & Engineering Firm with over 30 years of experience, is currently seeking a Safety Instrumented System Engineer (SIS) for their Long Beach office.

Job Experience:  Requires 3-7 years of relevant job experience within the SIS role.

 

Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering or a related field is required. 

 

Additional Education/Certifications: An advanced degree or certification in Control Systems or Process Automation is considered a plus. Possession of professional certifications such as TUV or ISA84 SIS is an advantage.

 

Job Description

  • As an SIS Engineer, your primary role will be to design, implement, and maintain Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) for our clients. 
  • Requires close collaboration with engineering teams and clients to develop solutions that ensure the safety and integrity of their operations.

 

Qualifications and Skills: To excel in this role, candidates should meet the following qualifications and possess the following skills:

  1. Experience: A minimum of 3 years of engineering experience, with a focus on SIS engineering.
  2. Safety System Engineering: Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) principles and industry standards, such as IEC 61511 and ISA 84.
  3. Communication and Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, vendors, and end-users. Strong documentation skills are required to create clear and concise technical reports and guidelines.
  4. Adaptability and Initiative: The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively, and maintain a proactive attitude. Willingness to learn and explore new technologies and methodologies is highly valued.
  5. Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in control systems, such as ladder logic, Function Block Diagrams (FBD), and Structured Text (ST), is considered a plus.
  6. Professional Certifications: Possession of professional certifications such as TUV or ISA84 SIS is an advantage.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Participating in the development of Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS).
  • Collaborating in the development of logic diagrams, cause & effect matrices, and functional narratives.
  • Contributing to the development of system functional test procedures.
  • Attending field verification and user requirements gathering walk-downs.
  • Executing factory acceptance testing.
  • Participating in field start-up and commissioning.
  • Having the opportunity to be involved in control system engineering and programming.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Travel by car to local refineries and plants.
  • Standing/walking around operational units while wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

$90,000 - $125,000 (Depending On Experience)
