The Senior Drilling Engineer is responsible to oversee, manage, and consult on well design, and programs. Keep senior management informed of project progress and proposed additional projects. 

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Manage drilling engineering consultants and eventually internal drilling engineers
  • Design wells, drilling programs and interventions to maximize safety of employees and assets
  • Work closely with 
  • team of geoscientists, reservoir engineers, drilling personnel, power plant personnel and management to ensure define and execute activities
  • Build program to grow Drilling Engineering Department with focus on drilling design and oversight
  • Prepare and execute work programs to deliver company goals in safe and efficient manner
  • Design programs appropriate for environmental and regulatory constraints
  • Supervise and manage coil tubing and rig cleanouts and workovers
  • Track program costs, control expenditures, and communicate to all stakeholders, including final reports with lessons learned and changes for future implementation
  • Identify new technology or developments to improve safety, operational efficiency, and economic outcomes
  • Lead design reviews, pre-activity program review, and post-activity reviews with stakeholders and vendors
  • Assist with root cause analysis for failures and safety incidents
  • Develop business cases and evaluate project economics
  • Develop authorization for expenditures and key decision reports for projects

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Demonstrated project management required and personnel management preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with safe drilling operations
  • Demonstrated experience with well design, drilling and completion programs
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal skills ability to motivate with a positive interaction with personnel
  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to convey complex technical information to stakeholders, vendors, and partners
  • Ability to utilize critical software for well design, wellbore modeling, project management, as well as Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel in a high intensity environment
  • Organizational and planning skills with problem solving skills and sense of urgency


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:  

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Able to sit, for prolonged periods of time. 
  • Able to stand, twist, stoop/bend, squat, kneel, crawl, reach, push, pull, and climb stairs or ladders regularly during each shift.
  • Able to walk moderate distances several times during each shift. 
  • Able to tolerate remote environments, indoor /outdoor work, wildlife, possible dust, dirt, and wind, including any weather typical for all seasons in southern CA, NV, UT, and NM.
  • Able to don all forms of required Personal Protective Equipment and work at heights of up to 50'.
  • Travel Expectations: ~25%, sometimes short notice. Flying and driving required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:  

  • BS Engineering required; Drilling Engineering specialization preferred

  • Must have above average computer (MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and CMMS), writing, grammar, and math skills. 
  • Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
